The reviewer did state he was looking for “high fantasy”. GA is told from the viewpoint of the adventurers. They don’t make the policies. They carry them out. Hopefully without getting killed.

While humor and silliness are certainly the main goal GA is also a sort of study of humanity and these themes are very well integrated into the humor and made to work together and bring each other about. It’s this discussion of the “issues” along with the funny stuff all cleverly tied together that sets GA apart imo.

Good review in any case and the analysis of the GA world as a kind of late Western/early industrial setting was especially appreciated.
