“Distinguished” just means they’re marked in a way that makes it easy to tell them apart from the common rabble.

Frig is definitely in no danger of being mistaken for common rabble, so the term applies.

Perhaps, but we’ve used boats for many thousands of years, and explosives (via gunpowder) for about a thousand. We’ve less than two hundred years of manned aviation, and less than a hundred of any kind of vehicle capable of actually carrying a useful number of people.

Also, a magick-inclined people would have a hard time grasping the limits, applications, and abilities of “the Science”; just as we would have a hard time appreciating and understanding the limits of magical forces if we were to bump into a people that could use them that were heretofore hidden.
