This is not only the comic's saddest chapter but also its most terrifying, in more than one sense. Elaboration to follow once the reruns in question go up.

As anyone who gets along well with an ex-partner probably understand on some level: For every group of people there is a certain amount of commonality, and requiring more than that may lead to problems. Given time/circumstances, they might move closer, but forcing people to do more with/to each other than what they can agree on can cause damage, which can backfire rather badly.

So ... Byron and Bandit went into this thinking they'd probably be fine but did not consider just how much trust in each other (and themselves) that implied. Looking back, it was kinda clear that this was not going to work, but using hindsight is unfair, of course. I keep thinking that there were opportunities to talk this over, build more trust, reduce the risk, but who ever goes into an adventure thinking that the team could not work just that little better with some more preparation/practice? I do like to think, though, that they come to some sort of mutual agreement/respect by the conclusion of the story.
