And the same goes for 'conservatives' naturally, preaching the wonders of the free market while holding their hand out for government cash anytime it's available.

What a pity that the majority of politicians of all stripes are corrupt. No wonder we're surprised (and disbelieving) when the occasional honest one shows up.

" Like him, she knows this alliance thing is a temporary pretense at best"
What do you mean ? Do you think archmage Caneghem and Syr'Nj are considering switching sides when the Savage threat will be quelled, and becoming enemies of the Humans ?

Well, he's right and he's wrong. And she's--well, I can't really figure out what's going on in her head right now. He's right because the elves that are in Gastonia aren't safe...but in a way they are. Although they may be in this complicated political situation and basically viewed as fuel for the war machine, rather than the usual kind of ally (which now that I type that, I realize that even the friendly sort of usual ally are still basically more fuel for a war machine, but whatever), they are still safer where they are than out alone facing off against Harky and hoping for the best. If she's hoping for a long-term arrangement, that's rather stupid because she's already gotten a taste of their abilities to be jerks, and I don't see that changing any time soon. So I think he's wrong that she's got these delusions of grandeur about skipping in from the forest and making everything all right because she said so; I think she's talking like that because it's the political thing to do and she's got hope that things will change. I mean, if they don't change, then all the elves are screwed and that's nothing fun to think about. The difference between the two of them is that he's given up on trying to make any changes for the better for his people because the politics of it all have made him jaded, and she's actually seen how people of different races can work together in a working (battlefield) environment and hopes that such teamwork can be carried over into the civilian world. Nothing wrong with that, it's just difficult to achieve, much less achieve it quickly.

This is at the very best an extremely short-term situation and should not be viewed as anything more than that. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that all the elves everywhere (yes, even the shit elves) need to form an alliance because those are really the only people they can count on to do anything beneficial for them. The humans (at least the Gastonian ones) have it in their heads to bring the entire world under their foot, it seems, and I don't see it ending well for the elves after this war is over.

Also, I'm loving my new avatar more than my previous one. =)
