She is playing possum, to try to lure him closer and get him to drop his guard. He’s not about to get any closer than he has to, and is striking as fast as he can, to deliver a fatal blow before she sees what’s happening, and has time to react.

If he did injure his arm, Rachel can heal it. If he risked getting injured by Blair, like E-merl did, then he’d be putting his whole party at risk.
