Hmmm, that’s a good point.
Carol mentioned having worked with JJ before, though she didn’t really go into super huge details. That still doesn’t explain a whole lot, but I suppose if they’ve worked with him before it explains how she knew how to contact him… but then, of course, begs the question about how she found him the FIRST time. :/ There has to be info on him SOMEwhere!

I do have to second the question of “Why rally behind Brown?” because it is a pet peeve of mine when people refuse to see the trees for the forest. I hate to say it, but if a white man attacked a police officer, tried to steal his gun, charged him, and then got shot (while being obviously strong enough to kill someone with his bare hands), nobody would care. But because it superficially resembles a trend, people choose to believe a sequence of events that contradicts the physical evidence but fits the trend rather than what must have actually happened.
