Okay, so I’m seeing this for the first time over a year later; but I too, thought “Prince Valiant.”
And yes, Syr’nj does look girly-pretty instead of tree-pretty. It’s a matter of artistic license. Ex; what’s the point of covering a song if you make it sound just like the original?
On the other hand, once anyone takes on another’s work on an on-going basis, the character’s um, ‘character’ has to take precedent over one’s own style (whilst walking the thin line of introducing said style smoothly and progressively with the story).

Man. Glad I *wrote* that instead of having to *say* it. What a damn mouthful.

This is a beautiful page. Johns website needs more art like this as fun as the hentai, mecha parodies are.

Erica’s art was a soft focus style, John Waltrip’s is very sharp focused, epic and realistic, if I can use both terms together. Lack of artistic training makes me compare it to Maxfield Parish and the “Prince Valiant” artists’ styles.

Waltrip’s Syrn’j seems more like a princess than Erica’s. Almost like she’s Arwen’s sister.

Don’t get me wrong, I like it! It’s just a considerable change.

I’m with some of the latter posters here. Great artist, hate whats going on with Syrn’js face. I LIKED her kind of ugly.

The ears bug me. A lot.
