So, this is essentially a Reboot remake? …Cool. Honestly, Rainmaker Studios, though ahead of its time in a way, was behind its’ time in another. Why weren’t intelligent A.I.– “Game Sprites,” allies to the Reboot characters from the start? Why didn’t the user ever play MMORPGs and Adventure Games, or FPS’s for that matter? Why didn’t the characters ever end up in a situation where they had to ally with, or even communicate with, the User? (e.g. “Booker, catch.”) Payet Best/WAV makes more sense to me knowing that he’s Guardian Bob if Bob were a human whose personality and overweaning escapism and ego makes him a huge douche, no matter where he is. I think, though, that this story would’ve been even better as an ongoing FANS! arc. Shanna having more resources could’ve raised the stakes, not lessened them.

actually at one point the user did play a first person shooter. I remember someone being disgusted at the user for shooting humanoids.

Too bad that the losses already occurred, when he was converted from .bst to .wav.

Converting back would just give you a perfect reproduction of a badly corrupted file.

Well even normal elves are kind of a drag on Gastonian society but now that you’ve got a hobo-elf, steampunk-elf and a cyber-elf walking around it’s sure to ruffle a few monocles.

Look at how ratty our heroes are. Patched clothes. Battered armor. Shaved head.

Now look at the people in the background and foreground. Fur coats. Gold chains for their watches. Hats with feathers.

You’ve got a bunch of subhumans and bums wandering around the high-class district. You’re gonna have the classist racists of Gastonia shooting some dirty looks.

Aye, that would be my guess. A huge loss of trust in the Adventurer’s Guild, to say nothing of their membership and general power, translates to a pretty steep drop in respect.

I’m thinking it’s a combination of all these things: (1) most Gastonians probably don’t really like the adventurer’s guild to begin with, (2) they must have heard rumors of the cultist events by now (possibly even some of the less-than-awesome events involving Braggo and others), (3) some kind of classishness, although this looks like a farmer’s market or something in a mid-range income district (up and coming nobles and military types); and (4) Jean-Luc’s comment on the elvish races vs. humans (Gastonians aren’t exactly fans of inclusion, right?)

Attn gamers: I just got word that Nintendo CEO, Satoru Iwata, died 10 days ago. In the 1970’s, Nintendo manufactured paper playing cards. Iwato made the company what it is today and blazed the trail for Sony and Xbox. I can still remember when the first National championships were held for Space Invaders. (Yea i know that was Taito and later Atari) But I’ll never forget the first time I went into my fave Pizza Parlor and there was the Donkey Kong machine and it was a new world. Couldn’t believe it. I also heard today that there will now be drug testing for all video games tournaments. Contestants are taking Adderall to concentrate. Sheez. Could immersion tanks full of Shanghaied gamers from gaming conventions be the next big thing?

Correction: Satoru Iwata was the fourth president of Nintendo Company which is 126 years old. He is responsible for the DS and the wii. He didn’t come on board til way after Donkey Kong. Nintendo worked with Magnavox on their video system the Odyssey in 1972. Shigeru Miyamoto whipped up Donkey Kong and Gunpei Yokoi designed the hard ware associated with Nintendo games. Iwata began doing contractor work for Nintendo in 1980 and was an influential executive beginning in 2000 becoming CEO two years later.

It can be corrupted a long time before that; being institutionalized just means it gets corrupted in the same way everywhere at once instead of each little place having their own different unique corruptions.

What if Wav. is not Payer… but rather, really an NPC that was created by spawned by Payet, and one of the local player characters. Time may be clocked different in that other realm. If they never called him Payet, and offspring use similar models while retaining a random skill from each parent, it would explain a lot. That’s right.. Payet knocked up the first program that was sent to delete him as an intruder… and every one after that. There are now thousands of “copies” of him.

It seems that all the characters “played by” The Five (Byron, Syr’nj, Frigg, Gravedust, Best and now WAV) have some physical similarity to their Sepiaworld counterparts, and I’m assuming that this happens automatically. As in, I don’t think the players even have the option of characters that look nothing like themselves.

I agree. In fact, the characters ARE themselves. Their “self” only exists in-game, so the character must look like the “player.” The reason WAV looks like Best, is that it IS Best – the REAL best (not Sepia-world host body). Best was teleported to another universe, and then got back to his real world.

Nooo, WAV, you were doing so good! Don’t unlock the douche achievement! Be better than Best!

To be fair, though, he’s been pretty much shat on by this universe since he got there, and hasn’t complained until now, so I guess he’s entitled to be a bit standoffish.

Random observation: those frowning ladies, especially the one on the right, look kind of Erica Henderson-y. Ironically more so than all the characters who were actually designed by her. Funny how it works.

I feel a little bad for E-merl’s player. All of his friends quit the guild and he is left just with two people that are too into RPing to make a personal connection (at least as far as he knows that’s what they are), an NPC (again as far as he knows) and Sundar (I have no idea if he is a PC or NPC.) And given the Christmas story I would say he was close to his friends. I wonder how much of E-merl’s attitude is RPing, how much is Daniel’s own real life attitude, (and how much is the magic inside the game world giving E-Merl a real personality, but that is another discussion).
