I think it's more a matter of being pro-contact. When the alternatives were "fight with Gastonia against the Savage Races, or isolation," they chose fighting with Gastonia. When the alternatives were "fight with the World's Rebellion against Iwatania, or isolation," they chose fighting with the World's Rebellion.

On the other hand, it might be a matter of them ranking potential enemies, from most benign to most intractable, Gastonia (makes noise about tolerating all peaceful races, and the Sky Elf archmage sits on the ruling council in both its open and shadow forms)->Troll-led Coalition (open to allies but has recent history of treating everyone who wasn't with them as against them)->Iwatania (open racist dictatorship ruled by a pint-sized terror who murdered his own family), and then allying with whoever is fighting the worst enemy they see.

Strictly speaking, this seems counter to the status quo. If they loved the status quo, they would have stuck with Gastonia rather than, well, radically altering their ancient homeland 's position.

They seem to me to be anti-war. At first they wanted full-on isolationism. They realized they needed trading partners, so they opened themselves up to Gastonia thinking they could avoid being pulled into the war.

Then they got pulled in anyways, and now realize that they can't avoid war in this geographic area, so having a mobile culture, they figure they'll radically alter the location of their nation to a place where peace is possible.

The only status quo they seem to care about is peace. Everything else can be radically altered for the sake of peace.
