There were a number of small changes in trade policy and diplomatic tone which were designed to cause Japan to think the US was preparing to go to war with them and goad them into a first strike.  FDR really wanted to get into the war, but there was no popular support for it without somebody actually attacking the United States, so he made sure that happened.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Um... no?  Sure they&#039;re theoretically more efficient, but they still generate quite a lot of heat.  If you&#039;ve ever seen one fired you&#039;ll note there&#039;s a fairly large plasma blast from the muzzle as the projectile exits.

The real advantage is that they&#039;re not constrained by the physical limits on gas expansion, so they can throw projectiles at velocities of multiple kilometers/second.  Doing that with chemical propellants, while not completely impossible, is highly complicated and prone to catastrophic failures.

Not that this one actually does that judging by the low speed and high lob...  Guessing it&#039;s a brand name and the actual gun works by a different mechanism.  Especially where the barrel design is wrong to be a rail gun.]]></description>
