Best’s original nickname for Byron on this page was “Gloomy McGoo,” further adjusted to “Gloomy McTearyface,” then “Byron the Bawler,” then what you see here. “Gloomy McGoo” is more technically accurate– Byron’s too depressed and afraid of his emotions to cry– but the others are better images.
At this point, Phil was talking a lot about making Guilded Age part one of a trilogy of series, to be succeeded by Space Age (inspired by Starcraft) and Dark Age (inspired by horror games). I was never 100% on board with that idea (though I didn’t have the heart to give him a definite no at the time), and Guilded Age would prove far too exhausting for it to be practical. I mourn for the stories that will never live. I’m sure they would of been awesome. But I can definitely understand it being too exhausting.
Well, you’re rested now, right? So, Dark Age is coming up?
…right??
