Annotated 10-17
I assume you Warcraft players know what this alt text means. (Just kidding, Phil explained it to me. It’s “what the bluck, Pacific Standard Time.”)
“Fight the power!” I’m somewhat conservative on the debate over what constitutes appropriation and what doesn’t, but if anyone would be absolutely shameless about it, Best would.
Phil and I worked in tandem to add Byron’s narration after most of the script was done. The “helpful tips” narrative would’ve been easy to completely lose now that we had his PTSD to add dramatic interest, but I think it’s one of the things that makes him Byron. We’ll see how he struggles to hold onto that side of himself, though.
Can’t quite figure why they sent the skull crushers to tank the monsters and the tank to crush the skull to begin with.
Golems traditionally have damage resistance, as well as slashing resistance. Even though Byron and Best likely have higher DPS, their individual attacks are reduced to almost nothing. Frigg’s mace (and imminent magical prowess) allows her to overcome both defenses.
As much as “tank” is a useful shorthand, it isn’t always relevant. Not one of our five could tank these guys in the sense of “soaking up damage to allow for a counterattack.” If any big blasts connected, that’d be it. Maybe they could survive a few of the smaller blasts, but those would immobilize them and then they’d be dead in seconds. So the fastest members of the version of the team without Bandit on it are best equipped to buy time.
In other words, they’re not tanking; they’re kiting.
Plus I imagine circumstance played into the decision as well. Byron & Best were in another aisle. Frigg was standing right next to Syr’Nj. Much easier to stick Frigg and tell the guys to shake a leg, then it would be to dive across the median aisle to Byron & Best.
I admittedly failed to check all of the alt text, but were you wary about using MMO terminology before the reveal?
Not too much. We figured y’all wouldn’t treat it as a serious clue any more than any other seeming non sequiturs in those alt texts.
After he first went berserk “on screen” I always thought it was clever that Byron had an apparent habit of monologuing internally, and dissecting each situation in a very analytical way at times when he might otherwise have focused on fighting.
Realizing that “helpful tips” were probably an intentional distraction mechanism to keep him from brutally murdering his friends and allies was the best kind of gut punch.
Agreed. Once I saw him *actually* beserk, the “helpful tips” took on a whole new aspect, that is, to keep himself cool and away from beserking.
NOT. THE. BOOKS!!!!
Scenes of bibli(othe)cal destruction always tug at my heart strings.
The bumper sticker on my car says, “They got the library at Alexandria — They’re not getting mine!”

There are four options in life.
SERPENTINE!
Best would absolutely love Public Enemy without a trace of irony or awareness.
