Annotated 42-1
Supply chain issues! Using obscure laws from centuries ago to establish tyranny! Deciding the fate of nations over a nice, hearty meal! Guilded Age: all of the sociological cynicism of George RR Martin with fewer arbitrary deaths!
This is the first time we’ve seen Bedard outside the context of his job, and it’s an interesting look for him. Apparently he knows how to host a dinner party congenial enough to put the often-prickly Miyamoto at ease. His knowledge and curiosity are far-reaching, which probably makes him stimulating company. But his eyes will always be hidden past those impenetrable lenses, and it’ll be clear soon enough that Miyamoto, one of his closest friends, doesn’t really know him.
Miyamoto does have a few things in common with quail…no, wait, that’s “Quayle.”
Given that will follow, I am questioning that friendship’s level. It may have been one-sided. Business partner or colleague may be a better descriptor of their relationship. I will agree on “respected colleague”.
Or Bedard is very good at segregating business and friendship.
True. He is about to be plucked.
Since quails are only about a handspan long, that looks too big to be a quail – more like a pheasant, especially with those tail feathers.
