Annotated 44-21
We could have referenced like thirty different memes here and still had ideas left over. I think Flo wanted to keep things general enough that they wouldn’t feel dated in a few years (so, now, I guess). We’ve got ceiling/basement longcats, “the anonymous man,” a depressed frog, a rageface, and a thoughtful raptor, each of them avatars of some state of being.
I’m glad we didn’t make Frigg’s avatar the rageface, though it seems like a natural fit. Rage is a huge part of who she is, and it probably always will be on some level. But it doesn’t define her the way defiance does.
I’m leaving Flo’s alt text as it is, but I’d probably go with Donald Trump, especially if I got to chuck him off a mountaintop at the end.

“Longcats” is a new one for me. Searching for “the anonymous man” just gives me images of Guy Fawkes masks; is that the correct reference? The frog is a reference to Pepe, I assume?
Anon is this guy.
Okay, I saw that one, but I figured it probably wasn’t the right one, given this guy is grey and that meme is conspicuously green.
Pepe’s not in Flo’s notes and would have represented something by that point that we wouldn’t have wanted to endorse.
I didn’t recognize the memes the first time around and I still don’t.
Yeah, I didn’t recognize them AS memes, much less what they reference.
Peter David has had a pretty sweet career, TBH.
Although if you beat him in battle and took his job over, you wouldn’t necessarily also gain his abilities…
The same goes for (former) US presidents, although the abilities needed to do the job well are veery different than the ones needed to get the job in the first place, whether you get it the old-fashioned way (by swaying the masses) or you beat them in combat (which might actually be rather hard, what with security being rather tight around them…)
I’ve just spent 10 minutes thinking whom I would want to beat in battle to take their job, but it’s actually a really hard question for me. Most of the people I wouldn’t mind punching have jobs that I think they’re doing very badly, but that I would not enjoy doing, either, or am likely to suck at. Most of the jobs that I’d like to have and think I could do reasonably well … I might not want or be able to fight their current owner and win.
Pedantic technicality, but those are Longcat and Tacgnol, not Ceiling Cat and Basement Cat.
Well, I learned something new here!
