I doubt that the mark would ever naturally produce a wang symbol, because, in at east one respect, this world is also a purchasable game, and they can’t run the risk of getting a MA rating. I’m more than mildly surprised that anyone here has genitalia, frankly.
Fan-made client-side graphical mods… most of which consist of making people prettier, eliminating undergarments, and increasing the size of sexual characteristics.
I bet the welves have a lot of obnoxious debates about the ethics of implanting “painless” magical seeds into “unwilling” infants. It’s a good thing they don’t have internet ’cause I can already see the passive-aggressive posts.
A: I’ve always appreciated that my parents respected my right to choose by not forcibly implanting the ink seed. Besides, I heard those things hurt lol. :D
B: I’ve had my ink seed since forever and I’ve never minded it, in fact I like it. The mild rash at the implantation spot is easily treated. Besides, it’s a major sex magnet and it’s not just elves who say so, LOL! :DD
That is a quite perceptive remark. There is probably also a heated debate about a possible link between ink seeds and conditions like tobacco virus or root rot.
Considering the permanency of them, I think the pain is a good obstacle. It’s a reminder to people who often do things with longstanding results without thinking ahead. It makes them stop and think through what they’re doing. Though some areas of the body hurt A LOT more than others. The guy who does mine let me know which was probably the most painful place to get one AFTER finishing that particular tattoo.
It’s almost like we have developed the mental response “pain” in order to deter us from things which are harmful and generally not a good idea, or something.
So, the only effect of the Ink – Seed is growing a more or less random pattern on your skin? Or are there other benefits, as example a slight antiseptic effect, or hightened sensibility?
Probably a +1 to spell DCs and spell penetration checks on a set spell schools that is chosen when seed is implanted. Also likely it would provide SR 5+character level. Both benefits could be upgraded with other feats later.
Once again, a lady presented her mammaries the first time I tried to read the comments. Both times this has happened, the site I’ve been redirected to has been adultfriendfinder.com, if that’s any help.
Well, if I’m going to be redirected somewhere, might as well be mammaries.
Me too. My browser history shows that it started at a coded URL with a subdomain of adultvideoz.net and that redirected to traffspot.net/fb.html which redirects to the huge mammaries image (the image is huge) on adultfriendfinder
Happened at work btw, not really cool. I don’t mind my co-workers knowing I read comics on break, but this isn’t what I want filling up a 23″ monitor there.
Ack, I didn’t want that link to traffspot.net to show up as a clickable link. That’s the one that redirects to the mammaries if you click on it. Feel free to delete the comment. Apparently typing the whole thing without the http still converted to a clickable link even though just typing the domain does not. Sorry.
Hmm, yeah, Avast just flagged something that I guess was trying to redirect me too. Didn’t catch what it was, though, so I’m assuming it was the same one you ran across.
We think we’ve got it licked at this point. I’ve been experiencing it sometimes too, and not in the roughly 24 hours since we removed the offending code.
Good to know that Wood Elves are as ageist and vain as 21st century Earth Humans.
BTW, the redirect issue is not going away. I was just redirected to the adult friend finder website, of all places. (Running Google Chrome, in case it matters.)
Oh, this looks bad – The redirect to Adult Friend Finder looks like a malware infection of the web server which is likely to cause redirects to malware delivery sites as well as the trip down mammary lane people have been reporting. BTW, it is caused by javascript that is injected into the web pages. I ran AdblockPlus in Chrome and it blocked ads on the page but not this.
I tried posting some links about it but my comment did not post – I guess there is some spam blocking of posts with too many links. So instead I’ll just say Google for the name of the malware Linux/Cdorked.A for lots of information on its effect, how to detect it, how to disinfect the web server.
I’ll try for one link – my other post with a URL got through. Here is a relevant post on a message board of another site that was hit with the same thing. Back up and read the entire thread to see how it is the same thing as is happening here and see one comment in the thread with a link to a reddit post and a link to a security site article about it.
Further searching indicates that it is a newer variant of Linux/Cdorked.A. Once again an attempt at posting with a link was blocked so instead I’ll just say Google for
Linux/HackingTeamRDorks.A, a “new” and improved version of Linux/CDorked.A
Excerpt from the top hit on that:
Two months ago (maybe three) I started noticing a sporadic redirect when I
accessed this blog pages. It wasn’t anything malicious as far as I could
evaluate; just a redirect to adult friend finder site. A friend did some
initial research on the site pages and content and could not find anything
relevant there, other than a very old Zen encoded backdoor (LOL!). I also
poked around the database contents and it appeared clean. Having read about
some recent Linux rootkits injecting iframes and that kind of stuff I was
convinced the shared server had been hacked. Other tasks were calling for my
attention and so this matter got sidetracked.
Last week some readers started complaining about the redirects and it was
finally time to find out what was really happening. I asked my great hosting
friends at HighSpeedWeb to give me r00t and find the problem. My instinct was
right and I found out a new variant of Linux/CDorked.A that made headlines
beginning of 2013. Unfortunately I have no idea how the breach started but I
bet in a local root exploit (server was running KSplice). Shared servers are a
pain to manage with all kinds of vulnerable scripts being installed.
For some background on Linux/CDorked.A you should have a look at the following
articles:
Urgh, the result is awesome to look at but the method is unsettling.
As opposed to repeatedly sticking a needle full of ink into your skin?
Who said I wasn’t talking about both?
I guess she’s no spring chicory, then.
Yew ain’t no green onion, either.
Cut er some flax, they’re doing the best they can :))
Well, that explains quite a lot. I guess that ink seed symbiotic is painless. A MUCH better alterntive to getting normal ink done I’d say.
the downside seems to be a lack of control. you know out there there a tree-elf elder with a wang drawn on his face…
Only one?
I do not think so, why? Because of the rules of “convenient narrative” as well as that that would not fit with the feel of the wood elves in general.
WOOD elves. I rest my case.

You say “painless” like that is a desirable quality of tattoos. I beg to disagree.

Remind me not to be your lover, student or patient.
I think your basic survival and self-preservation instincts are broken.
I’m 44. I expect to be 88.
I want to know what the “also” was.
Is it just me, or does Fr’Nj have the most Bandit-like smile on her face when she teases her sister?
Who do you think taught her the best teases?

Ditto regarding the redirection target. I have no objection to the undraped female form, but I prefer to seek it out as my own decision.
I know that another webcomic had this problem, so I think it’s some malware going around.
Me too. My browser history shows that it started at a coded URL with a subdomain of adultvideoz.net and that redirected to traffspot.net/fb.html which redirects to the huge mammaries image (the image is huge) on adultfriendfinder

Heh, that worked out – I typed it wrong – it’s traffspot.com that is the evil domain not traffspot.net

Technically these wood elves are actually played by 21st century humans, so it shouldn’t really be surprising
Well, at least one is…. The mature one?
Yep, same issue with the redirect. Germany, Mobile Safari.
This is actually a pretty good world-building detail.
I wonder what Syr’Nj was going to say after “but also.” Apparently there’s something more to it than purely age.
Indeed it is; I’ll be lifting it for my setting’s orcs and wood elves.

That is so much cooler than the answer I expected! :D
Wait, has Fringe been hanging around Bandit and/or The Frigg too much?
