Yeah, Winter’s Heart wasn’t good. By the end, I was wondering why the Two Rivers didn’t just kill Perrin and Fail(e) and become a republic. It would have made the story so much better.

That said, Crossroads of Twilight was very good and Knife of Dreams was superb. Then he died.

That’s odd. I liked Winter’s Heart, but really didn’t like Crossroads. I did like Knife of Dreams though. I liked WH because of the climax. It was a big event. But Crossroads just felt like an extended epilogue, where we get to see everyone’s reaction to WH. Until the cliffhanger at the end, which I loved/hated because I was half asleep until then, and then suddenly snap awake and realize that it’s over and I’m back to the wait for the next one. Different tastes I suppose. Any thoughts one the new ones by Sanderson?

For a ghost writer (and I appreciate that’s a big caveat), they’re excellent. Sanderson seems to be writing the way Jordan did in Great Hunt/Dragon Reborn. So, he’s not quite up to the standard Jordan reached by the end of Knife of Dreams (then again, Jordan had had several decades to practise by that point – not surprising he improved), but still well worth reading. And Sanderson says there’s only one more…

what I hated about Winter’s Heart was that whole ‘ooh I’m going to make all the women feel what the other ones are doing while my author avatar is in the sack with one, even the ones that can’t channel, I’ll just handwave that part cuz it really excites me to throw this in.’

I put the book down right there

If you skip that chapter (and I’d advise it – it’s not especially well written), then the series improves considerably thereafter.

Reminds me of the raccoon trap from Where the Red Fern Grows. Bait in a small hole, where they can reach in but can’t get out while making a fist. Apparently the raccoon will never let go of the bait.

And I guess nobody’s genre-savvy. I’d start running as soon as I saw the mirrors. It could be a doppleganger trap, or worse, a puzzle!
