You guys win the character naming award of the year. Every contemporary fiction writer who names stuff with imaginary, context-less, silly sounding, uninspired or otherwise forgettable names will forever feel uneasy in your presence.
if you’ve ever heard of the anime Read or Die, the main character loves reading and is named Yomiko Readman, so that may come close. also, I wonder if being named Bibli’oh the Librarian is like being named Taylor Smith who taylors and smiths.
Thank you, Halvhir, but it wasn’t all that time consuming. eschmenk is correct, I drew half of them, then just flipped them. (one of my little time saving tricks.) You may also notice the scroll shelves in panel two appear again in panels 4, 5, and 6, slightly altered and reversed in places. ;)
Virtues of Non-involvment ?
Is there any ? Sounds pretty much like isolationnism.
All they need, those wood-elves, is a good ol’ Pearl Harbor to make ’em stop ignoring the world they live in and the dangers that have to be foreseen.
How about this: Om.
The world is suffering.
Om.
It seeks to draw you in, to enslave you to false perception.
Om.
I see the suffering.
Om.
I feel the pain.
Om.
It does not draw me in.
Om.
It fades away.
Om.
And only the truth remains.

It’s the shading. It implies a hard edge part way along the circumference, rather than a gradual curve.
Hard to draw in a smooth graduation in such a tight space.
Which is exactly what Syncline just said, but described in a more general sense. I’d say that that specifc piece of the picture could have done with a little more shading to help indicate the cylindrical shape of the lens casing.
But other than that, you totally rock mister Waltrip artist man dude. Along with the writer mans. You guys all rock.
Ah, now I get it.
Those little details don’t even register with me.
I thought the thing was that the profile was square, because if the glasses had been thin, the square outline would mean square glasses.
Silly girl! You are missing all the history! You should have just page’d him.

I may be showing my age, but I have a request for some cameo appereances – a couple of elves named Gos’ny and Udr’zo
At least give us Kur’Ik’s bard relative Cacfn’Ik
Gold star.
… I read that as Bilbo… twice… before I got it right >.>
Wait, did Jason draw each one of those scrolls/swirls individually?
…MADNESS. Glorious madness.
Half of them, it looks like. Cool, anyway.
no. John did.
Who’s he?
Someone who likes scrolls.
It begs the question; “Is that a scroll in your pocket, or do you just like scrolls?”
He must be parched!
a scribe named bibli’oh. seems like he didn’t have a choice.
It’s entirely possible that adult names are chosen AFTER the person chooses their career. May cultures on plain old Earth have done this.
We also would’ve accepted Bookrack Librama. Change!
Is her first name Ka’ty?
Her first name, obviously, is Kur.
Kur of the house ‘Ik = Kur’Ik.
Yes, but put it all together…
Do you flail your lapels at an Iwatani?!?
I see the joke, I really do, but it just didn’t work for me.
Do you impersonate an Iwatani?!? Guards, take him to my hammertank practice range!!
I… love… that first panel. Must have been a bit time consuming to draw, but the effect of shelves and shelves of scrolls is really nice. :)

This page just fills me with such high levels of “d’awww” and I don’t know why.
So the Wood Elves are stagnating…
YES. Evolve or die.
Isolationism does that for ya.
If that’s an OOTS reference, I give you one bonus point.
This wood be a problem if they don’t root for a good change.
It really is time that they leaf their old ways and start branching out.
The new growth is sapping the strength of the old growth— wouldn’t it be better if they stemmed forth from symbiosis?
I guess the next strips will be about Bibli’Oh’s take.
So…where’s Con’n the Librarian?
On Channel 8, of course.
Boy, is my face red. It’s been years, so of course I misremember it. Channel 62.

Panel 2 – Bibli’oh’s glasses in profile suggest that they are square, and yet…
Ah, I can see what you mean, but look again.
Hint: They’re very very very thick!
It’s the shading. It implies a hard edge part way along the circumference, rather than a gradual curve.
Hard to draw in a smooth graduation in such a tight space.
No, they’re just about an inch thick. Seen from the side, even a round lens makes a big rectangle if it’s thick enough.
Which is exactly what Syncline just said, but described in a more general sense. I’d say that that specifc piece of the picture could have done with a little more shading to help indicate the cylindrical shape of the lens casing.

thank you, plaintextman. much appreciated.

He kind of reminds me of Otacon in some shots.
If so, then where’s Uncle Sld’Snk?
Seriously love this comic! This story makes me wanna get my game on!
I love, love LOVE panel 3! She reminds me of my daughter telling me about her day.
….
I think both Kur’Ik and my daughter should be stand-up comics.
(pause)
HAR! HAR!
(ahem) sorry.
Kur’Ik, a.k.a Com’Ik and Mym’Ik
Already liking this Kur’Ik character a lot.
…does Kur’Ik looks familiar?
I think I know whaddaya mean… But we ALL think that, don’t we?
BEEEEESSSSSSTTTTT!!!!!!
At least; “this week’s forecast of Best with a chance of redemption.”
Nope. Sorry. I don’t see it myself.
I was thinking possibly Carol but I was tilting at windmills.
When H.R. and Carol make their appearance, I expect we’ll notice.
Yep. Agreed. Whether it’s H.R., Carol or Best, there will be a distinct sign.
