Chapter 2, Page 19
We here at Guilded Age would like to thank our crack team of Continuity Errorists for spotting Gravedust’s hand jive action. We will endeavor to be less careless in such matters in the future. It took a bit of money (money we were going to use to feed poor, homeless, terminally ill children on Christmas), but we got our pals at Industrial Light & Magic to use their Advanced Computer Technologies to update the page for today’s modern audience. Please enjoy.
Gravedust’s way with a bow and ghost-powered arrow more than compensates for his complete lack of humour.
Soooo . . . you seem nice enough . . . but, what comic are you reading? -.-
GraveDust is one of the funniest characters in the entire comic. : D
Both statements are true in different contexts.
Gravedust has Batman-humour. He is funny because he is a serious and unfunny guy put into amusing contexts.
What happens to the ghost after he’s shot, I wonder?
Did his walking stick magically transform into a bow? He barely shifted.
Coooooool.
not only did his walking stick transform into a bow (cool!), he also managed to pull the string with the left hand and release it with the right (awesome!) :)

like story and art very much, by the way!
This whole comic is brilliant.I kid you not when I say it’s the one webcomic I’d HONESTLY buy if I had the chance. The script, characters and story are really original (and fucking hilarious), so they certainly keep you interested, and the art is amazing . Really makes something to aspire to as well. Jolly good job, you 3, thank you for sharing this with us all!
Uh.. how.. how did he switch hands so fast? lol?
Or is that little finger at the bottom not a pinky, but infact, an extremely weird or mangled dwarfish mutation of his thumb?
But! Awesome comic :D
That’s has to be his left hand pulling back the string, if you look at the orientation of the string and arrow. So not only did he 1) switch hands with the staff 2) magically transform it into a bow and 3) pull an arrow out of a quiver that must be invisible, but he then moved the bow back into his left hand to shoot it without accidentally releasing the arrow.
Now, any one of those could have been called as a “Free-Action” move, but to do all of that he had to use a total of at least 4 attack actions. That’s one scary high-level dwarf.
And don’t forget, he was able to make an Aimed, non-lethal, missile attack against a fast moving target. You could argue that the ghost in the arrow probably helped guide it, but that’s still a lot of penalties to the roll.
Oh, and Bandit makes an interesting move…why did she pull up her hood while she was running?
She wouldn’t have to. A moving arrow would be able to pin it from below.
So… the dwarf changed hands…
Who cares? OR give a damn?
The art is awesome and the comic is hilarious.
I´m fine with it.
Have you considered that the panel could be viewing his hand from the opposite side?
either way, super love.
I see consistency police have landed the “HAY DAS NO RIGHT” Choppah! Comic rawks, The dwarf coulda flicked a booger that turned into a piano to stop the bandit, Its MAGIC! Its a comic soooo who cares?
I for one think that they consistency police and their chopper are awesome. But did they really have to land it? Couldn’t they have done that cool thing where they rappel down on ropes?
It’d also be somewhat interesting to know if he really did turn his staff into a bow, or if the bow is kept in that long, flat leather case on his shoulder, and we just didn’t get to see him unpack it because it wasn’t interesting enough to warrant a panel.
CLEARLY, that case is either a “Quiver of Elhonna (or insert Archery-flavored deity of choice)”, an extra-dimensional carrying space useful for ranged combatants OR simply his PACK. Because, yanno….player characters put EVERYTHING in their pack. Whether it fits/burns/chews/curses/explodes-when-in-contact-with-reality, whatever!
I uh….just put it in my pack fer later.
Clearly, it’s a Swiss Army staff. It also has a can-opener and toothpick.
Looks like the right hand is pulling to me.
Ah these heartwarming secret origin stories. Soon the cleric, the thief and the mystic will be bffs.
The “I do not fear/I fear” lines are perfect. Freakin’ awesome.
Congratulations!
You are our 666th comment!
Hooray! If that means I win a prize, I accept cake and chocolates. :)
I think the choices are cake or death
Chocolate death?
Pretty sure he didn’t switch hands … knuckles do look really weird when you look at them up close. It looks odd but it’s accurate. Anyone who has tried to draw hands will be sympathetic to this.
An effective move: stop the elf from chasing the thief and catch said thief in the same move. Brilliant!
Funny thing… but this is the only fantasy story I’ve ever encountered that has a “dwarf” using a bow.
I like it, honestly.
