After a heated debate escalated into a flame war, the hotheads prevailed:
– “Nudge nudge, wink wink, grin grin”
– “Are you incinerating something?”
– “Oh no no no no no… yes”.
He didn’t need to tell her that obvious lie. Maybe his intent is to quietly let her know she SHOULD be concerned and might want to fetch someone of higher station within her race to properly overhear and correct the situation? He is tied by politics, but he’s not above tricks to get what he really wants.
She was on her way out, but in the second panel it looks like she put that on hold in favour of staying a moment to watch the off-the-record gathering.
His problem is that he needs to tell her to go get Syr’Nj and the other non-human heads of house, without telling her to go get Syr’Nj and the other non-human heads of house.
It has to appear that Kur’Ik came up with the idea to get the other heads, all on her own.
Paraphrase:
You’re not needed here. This is a job for all of the heads of house. If only there was someone who could drag the missing heads back here by their pointy ears, then maybe they could stop what’s going on in here, before this becomes an enormous clusterfu- … um, what are you still doing here?
I wonder if they’re planning some kind of new weapon, e.g. portal bombs, now that their last innovation has proved less overwhelming than they’d hoped…
For the most part he has been an open and honorable man. And he is smart so he knows what a nest of vipers the Houses are. So by making sure Kur’ik leaves fully he is ensuring she does not over hear anything that might put her own life in danger since Syr’Nj is not there.
Least that is how I see it. I could be dead wrong and Adric might be a total douche.
That hovertext! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
And I formerly respected Marshal Ardaic so much. *sigh*
You know what you need to do Miss Kur’ik.
Yes… Just innocent parties.
“So, there’s a risk that the new superweapon will ignite the entire atmosphere. Shall we go on with the tests?”
Might as well. If the entire atmosphere does in fact ignite, then by default, no one will care.
We have a problem, the atmosphere ignited the superweapon.
A fiery superweapon? sounds more like success.
Quickly, fire the superweapon before it burns down! It’s our only chance…for more awesome xplosions.
Well if your going to die you might as well go out in a blaze of glory!
Ahem: you are all fired.

Hey you guys. I bet he is not telling her the truth.
Nah, no one would use a birthday surprise as a pretext for scheming.
The cake is a lie.
…sorry I just couldn’t resist.
Nope nope no, the cake is fake, the pie is lye
Here, have a big helping of pie
HEY GUYS THAT GUY LIES WE SHOULD EAT THAT GUY! DON’T LIE, GUY!
In an attempt to link this pun thread with the pun thread just above:
“Liar! Liar! Pants on fire!”
(Shakes head in sad, frustrated disgust.)

I bet Ardaic leaves the door slightly ajar.
From the sound of this, I’d guess that someone’s in a jam, in ajar.
Andreas Geisler, from yesterday’s comments? You NAILED this with your prediction. I bow in deference to your accuracy.
Somebody’s gonna get shanked.
Et tu, Ardaic?
I suspect not.
D’aww… thanks :)
I really hope theyare just planning a birthday surprise. That’d be awesome.
She was already on the way out, what’s his problem. I hope she’s smart enough to go tell someone like Syr.

Did Gruff And Unpolished, Yet Basically All Right Noble also leave?
all non-humans left. Humans did not.
Glad I’m not the only one that’s noticed the high humans-to-honhumans ratio in that little “gathering”…
I do believe Ardaic’s fantastic racism is showing. :-(
No, Guildmaster Persson did indeed also leave.
He’s either the most honest and decent human among the Heads, or a bigger schemer than Iwatani and/or Jarvis.
Or he’s the one being schemed against.
I wonder if they’re planning some kind of new weapon, e.g. portal bombs, now that their last innovation has proved less overwhelming than they’d hoped…
I have to kinda respect Marshal Ardaic for this.
For the most part he has been an open and honorable man. And he is smart so he knows what a nest of vipers the Houses are. So by making sure Kur’ik leaves fully he is ensuring she does not over hear anything that might put her own life in danger since Syr’Nj is not there.

When it comes down to politics, EVERYONE who participates is a douche.
