Depends on the MMOs.
If they blend together in tiers, then it could be really awesome.
WoW + WAR + EVE Online + Everquest (1 and 2) for example.
If a decent WH40K MMO would be mixed in there, it would be even better. ^^
Didn’t think anyone played WAR anymore (was an early tester, and participated in the “Road to War” event, but haven’t been back since they merged a couple servers and didn’t collect the rewards from the mail before hand :()
There’s another one that I cannot remember for the life of me now (read it about 15 years ago or so – not halting state). Hmm… that bothers me that I don’t recall enough about it to do a good google search (flip side, google is turning up lots of junk in those searches). Off to scifi.se.
Shards Online is intended to be something like that. Unfortunately, the Kickstarter failed; the team seems to intend to continue working on the project, and I’m wondering if they’ll try a second Kickstarter.
In todays game news a 14 year old hacker found that Hurricane Software re-used old game code and single handily defeated The Worlds Rebellion in Kingdoms of Arkerra by activating the Orbital Tactical Nuclear Missile Satellite left in the game from some re-used Escape From Cyberia code.
Hurricane Software have yet to make a comment.
Your timeline is wrong. Kingdoms of Arkerra was released seven years before Escape from Cyberia. Check the archive page I linked in a comment above.
Now, stomping around Cyberia in an antique Gnomish hammertank? Completely under their radar. You can’t use an EMP blast against a steam engine, bwa ha ha ha!
Not sure if Sundar is so trusting he doesn’t question how the hover vehicle thingie works, or he only has enough brain-function to provide basic life-support and communications :P
Dude, he lives in a Magical World of Magic and is chasing a reality-eating monster through its weird green holes armed with only his blade. The time for questioning things has long since passed.
Ha! Cyberea! Now to sleep… Darn.
…perchance to dream?
Of electric sheep?
or techo lights, and thumping beats?
Wavstep.
Vert-vert-vert?
Purr-vert-vert-vert
Zhwum-zhwum-zhwum-zhwum.
tiktiktiktiktik
“ka-transform!”
Thwip!
Zippy-poo kawang!
You’ve beaten me to my “ka-open” :) Kudos, Captain!
I’ve always held a soft spot for “Rezzzzzzz” myself. Short, sweet, gets the point across with a minimum of fuss.
Undoubtedly the sound of a 56k modem: clack-clack-clack-clack nrrrrrrrrfiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiweeeeeeeeeeeeee…
I am thinking Zworp…I think it sounds cool. Say it aloud…Zworp…
Everybody now. Zworp.
Isn’t that fun?
He is obviously a more stealthy character, I opt for “…………..”.
I’d have gone with “Mzwerv”.
Whatever the appropriate onomatopoeia is for when Transformers do the Transform thing.
oooOOOooo~ Someone from another game! :D That would be AWESOME!
Yeah, it was mentioned in earlier comics that Hurricane’s previous game was Escape From Cyberia.
o.o link please?
Escape from Cyberia wasn’t their previous game.
It was their next game, due to hit stores a week after the interview.
Well, looks like WAV did escape from cyberia…
There are other tubes than these.
I’m suddenly wondering if Best will at some point be “drawn” back into Arkerra, a la Jake Chambers.
It’d be awsome if MMOs bled into each other.Imagine how raids and pvp would be with all the rules clashing hehe
If that was a thing, I would play them.
Guh, and I thought guild drama about raids and junk in ONE game would be bad enough!

well, there would have to be weapon balancing, but then you could get a barbarian holding a Gatling gun…
Didn’t think anyone played WAR anymore (was an early tester, and participated in the “Road to War” event, but haven’t been back since they merged a couple servers and didn’t collect the rewards from the mail before hand :()
WAR doesn’t exist officially anymore. It was shut down last fall. There are still some of us around if you look hard enough, though. ;)
WHAT!!! Seriously? That was, imo, a much better game than WoW (and closer to it’s original source)
Next you’re going to tell me the Conan mmo has been shut down as well
Charles Stross, Halting State.
The plot centers around a cross platform raid.

And as a followup, the book I was thinking of was A Point of Honor by Dorothy J. Heydt.
Shards Online is intended to be something like that. Unfortunately, the Kickstarter failed; the team seems to intend to continue working on the project, and I’m wondering if they’ll try a second Kickstarter.
Is it always cold in Cyberia?
We need to find the mammoths. The train will get us there.
Cyberia, is that next country over from Cimmeria?
And I wonder if this guy has a friend named MP4.
He has an older brother Mu, who took the Law into his own hands.

Sundar he brave, not too smart
Who needs smarts when you can blindly trust any mysterious person you meet?
I dunno, I’m kinda digging the dream team.
I hope they mesh well…
Sundar is just up all night to get some, all night to get lucky…
Cue .wav jokes
Sorry, all I’ve got are .midi jokes. :/
It should probably sound like PsshvvvzztwoooorbleorbleorblePOIT!
That comment PLUS that gravatar FTW!
Perhaps panel two already has the correct onomatopoeia. The effect could be silent, stealthy. Appropriate for a hunter.
In response to the alt text, I believe the rule is: When in doubt, the sound is ‘NEEM!’
Tapping on a keyboard: Neem.
Launching a hovercar: Neem.
Shooting a laser that can destroy a planet: Neem.
That’s just how it is.
Hmm. Is it the interface between the two?
Hey baby, lets go back to my place and interface….
Not sure if Sundar is so trusting he doesn’t question how the hover vehicle thingie works, or he only has enough brain-function to provide basic life-support and communications :P
But either way, so cool :D

IT’S A TRAP!
YESSS, VALIDATED SPECULATION
I know it’s probably pronounced Wave, but I read it as wah-ve which sounds infinitely lamer haha
I support anything that makes cyberpunk look or sound lamer.
Just wait til we meet his friends GIF, JPEG, and Midi
To me that’s more of an echomimetic than an onomatopoeia, but I suspect that’s a language barrier issue ;)
How is that pronounced? I imagine it is pronounced wave, though whav would be my second guess.
Wav?
A sound format?
Payet Best alt confirmed.
