We didn’t get to see his breakdown. I’m sure he sobbed like a baby. But he’s obviously had several days to process it. Now he’s putting on a show for his team mate, cause that’s his job.
With Bandit’s self-esteem issues she will probably assume that Rachel is intentionally avoiding her because of what she did to Byron, possibly at the cost of overlooking the fact that Rachel wouldn’t do that.
So Merl’s one of those people who turns themselves into a badass when they lose someone close so that they won’t lose someone like that again, cause he seems to already be in the acceptance stage.
I think after all the face eating fun the guildies may want the position of field commander put to a vote. Syr’Nj will probably nominate ZomByron The Abomination.
Wight Supremacists are only a *minority* of the total wight population, ya’ know. Assuming that trait among the entire Wight species is pretty racist of you…
He knows! He knows and he is such a softie that he can’t bring himself to tell Bandit. Because SHE is going to take that personally as well – she will blame herself for not being there for Rachel! Aaaaagh, you guys kill me.
Bandit was probably too busy getting tossed in a holding cell for anyone to bother telling her. In that time, there was still opportunity to tell E-merle BEFORE he came to comfort Bandit.
Oh, E-merle…
Those last few panels don’t need any words; your expressions and pause are perfect evidence as to what you’re thinking, sparing Bandit anymore stress because she’s your friend.
Also, I’d be willing to put money down on that E-Merle’s going to be the new field-leader. But if Syr’nj should dislike his defense of Bandit enough to keep that role from him, then my money’s on Gravy instead. There aren’t many left to give it to. Though I wouldn’t mind seeing Frigg be the leader. >:3
Disagree. Frigg is a great tank. She solves most problems with brute force. I don’t think she even cares about thinking strategically. She is all tactical. She would be a great battle leader. not a good team leader. imo
Leaders are responsible for those who follow them?
How could a general be held responsible for the acts of each and every single one of his (or her) subordinates? I mean, you have tens of thousands of men under your command. How can you know absolutely all? Especially when communications and signalling aren’t at their best.
Only if your followers are proven to have disobeyed your orders are you not responsible for their actions. If they were properly following your orders explicitly, then you’re held accountable for the consequences of those orders.
More in relation to what Bandit is actually referring to, a General is considered accountable for troop casualties that occur under their command structure. It’s understood that not all casualties can be avoided, but if it can be demonstrated that a General failed to prevent harm to their troops to the best of their ability then they may be subject to criminal charges.
HE KNOWS
She knows he’s lying?
Also, wherefore art thou, fun alt-text? :(
No fun allowed on a page like this. :(
The alt text is similarly afraid of heights.
My b.
…Now I feel like the alt text is correcting me. Is that vain?
Mr Phil… Tear Down This Fourth Wall!
Definitely read this in the voice of Sebastian the crab.
cmon man we are all waiting for the epic sobdown , you better have a flash back right now
Oh, man. Oh man.
That alt-text just cracked me up. “Chapter 37 — Page 12” Ow, my sides.
Well, he’s taking all of this quite well.
We didn’t get to see his breakdown. I’m sure he sobbed like a baby. But he’s obviously had several days to process it. Now he’s putting on a show for his team mate, cause that’s his job.
It was either that or hamburger time.
She doesn’t know? Oh, this could be bad.
She knows now. BS detector just went to defcon 1
She doesn’t know Rachel’s gone, hence her comment. E-Merl’s (really) bad lying, however, means she now knows something is up.
With Bandit’s self-esteem issues she will probably assume that Rachel is intentionally avoiding her because of what she did to Byron, possibly at the cost of overlooking the fact that Rachel wouldn’t do that.

“Seems.”
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
Unexpected!
Well he’s not letting the mask slip is he.
He’s an illusionist.
“She doesn’t have enough cleric levels to cast Death Ward yet, you see, so…”
Rachel only visits people when they’re at their lowest point.
In Which We Discover That E-Merl Is Surprisingly Resilient
Syr’Nj is not going to let Bandit lead the team again . . . which means e-merl is totally going to be the new leader.
I think after all the face eating fun the guildies may want the position of field commander put to a vote. Syr’Nj will probably nominate ZomByron The Abomination.
Well done on E-merl’s facial expressions in the bottom row. Also, on the rest of the comic, but that really stands out to me.
Thank you, Batguy.
I completely agree. E-merl’s character just doubled in depth over the course of those four panels.
Brilliant work, folks!
Took the words right out of my mouth
…aaaand I now have Meat Loaf stuck in my head.
Regarding the alt text, I’d say she was too level headed to be afraid of wights. Wight supremacists maybe, but not the garden variety.
Its the Brother Tom’s you got to watch out for…
Wight Supremacists are only a *minority* of the total wight population, ya’ know. Assuming that trait among the entire Wight species is pretty racist of you…
*GASP* He knows!
Scotty doesn’t know! Scotty doesn’t know! Don’t tell Scotty!
heh, back when that song was still on the radio, whenever it came on we would be like, “no man, scotty DOES know and hes fucking pissed!”
He knows! He knows and he is such a softie that he can’t bring himself to tell Bandit. Because SHE is going to take that personally as well – she will blame herself for not being there for Rachel! Aaaaagh, you guys kill me.
wait, did i miss something? when did e-merl find out before bandit?
Bandit was probably too busy getting tossed in a holding cell for anyone to bother telling her. In that time, there was still opportunity to tell E-merle BEFORE he came to comfort Bandit.
E-merl knows Rachel in real life, he found out during the Axemas gray-world special
Oh, E-merle…

Frigg would be a good leader when sober. But she’s always drunk.
Disagree. Frigg is a great tank. She solves most problems with brute force. I don’t think she even cares about thinking strategically. She is all tactical. She would be a great battle leader. not a good team leader. imo
We all know that WAV is going to take over that position now.
He’s just the Best suited for the job.
He’s just the Best,
suited for the job.
FTFY.
Its kind of sad that nobody is nominating Scipio.
So he has been told.
And that makes this whole scene so, so fucking sad. -_-
Gobledygook!
Haven’t posted in a while, just wanted to see which gravity I’d get.
Really cool one actually. Wish I could keep it forever !
Eyeballs, gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the Fates’ design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine…
Don’t know why that didn’t reply to “Zippideedoodah” but oh well.
Gravedust, Gravedust, let down your hair!
I mean, yeah, let your hair down dude. Stop being so uptight and serious alla time. PARTY UP!

Yeah, E-Merl is a bad liar. If Rachael really was afraid of heights, then she would be afraid of getting to heaven, wouldn’t she?
The man went into a trap that he knew was a trap – and you want to blame Bandit because he got *caught* in the trap *that he knew was a trap?*
What precisely was she supposed to do to stop it? This trip was doomed from the moment Byron decided they should make it.
