I can’t tell, did Harky pull the spear back out, or is Penk’s healing factor so strong it disappeared the spear altogether?
Maybe Harky couldn’t retrieve it after that. Maybe he misinterpreted the billowing of Penk’s outfit as his herald having brought a furry tail to their honorable duel and is letting his skull be bashed in so he can forget about everything and die before putting two and two together.
I’d think the handle broke. That spear probably isn’t going out the way it went in.

Penk smashes Harkey in the face with his drumstick, the angle makes it likely that Harkey’s spear arm would have gone forward, pushing the spear deeper

Ironically, despite tutoring students in high school level English, I am not a prescriptivist. As such, I see nothing wrong in verbing nouns :)
Also, I should clarify that I am not assuming a continuity error exists, rather that I am honestly wondering if Trolls have the ability to instantly (or near-instantly) digest items within their body, so as to avoid the whole >regeneration stopped by impalement< issue.
I reckon that this would be a very interesting, although admittedly quite creepy concept. If that is true, I wonder whether absorbed mass is used to further speed up regeneration.
Spear will be high in iron…good for the blood. it didn’t look like Stone which would be high in minerals, or a different metal. Also the shaft is very high in fibre. Spear, does a body! Good?
Is this accomplished by absorption or a hereto unexplained instinctive vanishing power inherent in the trolls accelerated healing?

I think Guild Wars sort of has that to an extent, but steins but some classes could use torches, horns or other items that don’t seem exactly like weapons.

I wonder why Harky isn’t using holy fire powers as well? Does that mean that Penk represents Tectonicus’s preference for the way this conflict is to go?
Because he can’t, wasn’t it the main reason why Penk even was needed? Harky lost it and another one had to take over, or Harky gave it away so that Penk could take it over, so Harky could focus on leading instead fighting.
Has Harky ever used fiery powers in the comic? I can’t seem to recall him doing so.

I assume it has to do with the rather bizarre idea that they have character classes, where Harky is a pure fighter and Penk is a Paladin/Bard. With Rachel, Frigg and Silver Centurions all being paladins with “Glowy Hammer Shit.”
Rachel explains that her order uses faith/belief/gibberjabber to unlock what amounts to chi powers that they can then channel into a weapon. In Penk’s case, this is fire.
Okay, I’m just a little surprised. Harky always seemed like an ultimate badass – in chapter 8, he dominated the guildies (’til Byron ‘zerked; Byrzerker is the INFINITE badass); Penk’s battle against the same in chap 30 showed he was mediocre at best. So Penk looking like he’s about to strike the winning blow so quickly? I’ll bet the tide is about to suddenly turn (again, like when Harky was about to kill Syr and then got Brzerk’d.)
Two options: Either he’s been out adventuring, grinding, and getting better gear (to cover with his favorite armor as an aesthetic choice) while Harky’s basically been sitting back and leading the guild, remaining static while Penk took advantage of the Double XP weekends, or the will of Tectonicus flows through him.
That was before he gave the magic gem to Penk.
As others have said, back then Harky was Tectonicus’ Chosen. Now? He’s just a Troll.
While it does seem short, if it goes on another page it would seem too long. This is a fight meant to be both intense and to “get on with it”. Harky may be important, but he isn’t the main focus of this comic. Hell not even Penk is the main focus, they are both side characters/villians for the main plot.

Sepia world aside, Penk’s character development rivals that of any of the former Peacekeepers, and he’s on the same side as them now (or, depending on how you look at it, they’re on the same side as him). Of course, it looks different if one is only reading for sepia world.
I do believe that Penk’s Sepiaworld equivalent joined the adventurers as well, yes?
We know nothing about Penk’s sepia counterpart (or even he’s a PC). People hypothesized that Xan was his player, but that was based on a similarity in appearance, which is, frankly, a point against the idea, because a) he would be the only non-tubed player who looked like his character, and b) does it really make sense that Mr Paranoid would make a public facing toon that looked like his real face?
You forget that if Harky doesn’t do his job here, there’s a certain landshark boss who will likely step up to the plate… the dinner plate, as it were.

I love the visual effect for this comic on my desktop monitor. But on a tablet, it’s really hard to see what’s going on.

In most Mythos trolls have regeneration capabilities all of them not just the ones that wield Tectonicus.
True though I would being a vessel for a god’s power probably boosts that healing factor considerably anyway.

is this fight strictly to the death? or is penk winding up for a concussive blast from the drum to knock harky out — enough to prove his dominance in the arena, but sparing the life of a respected elder?
ive got a head cannon forming where penk calls gondolessa down. penk reiterates that harky is now dead among trolls, either penk kills harky or hes banished to exile when he wakes. gondolessa has had enough heartbreak for one lifetime, so he carries harky out of town. they retire out in the middle of nowhere, bittersweetly ever after.
Harky is getting his arse beat, hard.
But….. I suspect Harky knew this would happen, in fact, I’d go so far as to say Harky planned on it happening. And took steps to ensure that it would. Except, being a troll, in order for it to go “as it should”, he has to make it real, hence, willingly stepping up and taking a possibly fatal beating for the sake of his people’s future.

The nerdy pedant in me wants to say that all all attacks should be performed in such a way that they limit your opponent’s freedom to answer with an afterblow. Therefore, Penk and Harky are doing it wrong.
