What’s wrong with loving Syr’nj ?
Anyone else has noticed she looks like some kind of sniper/fusilier with that belt of ammo-pouches across her right shoulder ?
From what we’ve seen of Syr’nj, I’d expect it’s less blackmail and more of saying whatever needs to be said to get the louts to do someone a good turn.
I think it just might be the fact that the characters as you know them have grown since this scene took place. The flashback / flash-forward thing does make it a bit confusing though. . .
I think byron was being about in character, gravedust is an enigma still in many ways so it’s hard to say. As far as syrnj goes She seems to be the fastest growing character. Also, it’s interesting that it would be hard to pinpoint a preset class to her. She’s like a ranger/cleric dual class without the weapon, armor or magic proficiencies that would come from either class. lol. We lover her anyway.
I think Gravedust is likely an idealist by Savasi standards (after all, he seems to be stuck on the idea of reparations, and historically reparations just isn’t something that happens unless you go out and take it) and a pragmatist or cynic by the standards of anyone else. He’s said his own people are “ruthless beyond reasoning,” before, which leads me to believe they’d have no issue passively accepting the death or enslavement of someone who had ceased to be their ally. He’s got other fish to fry.
though I guess syrnj did use a dagger and shield earlier with surprising efficiency, so maybe she just chooses to make herself useful in other ways in battle…
On Syr’Nj’s thinking vis a vis Frigg: I say Syr’Nj is speculative enough to have thought of that “if we save her” causal disposition as she was speaking that sentence.
Her principal motivation here is to save Frigg in itself; so what remains is what to make of her thinking about Frigg’s power level / value. I choose to believe this issue tells me Syr’Nj had thought about it before. Perhaps, if she wasn’t drunk at the time, she’d have made a more eloquent objection to Frigg’s departure.
`I loved Syr’Nj’s Gravedust impression to death. :)
To be fair to Dusty, I’m only 20 and I don’t understand Kids Today, either.
I love Syr’nj’s plan to rope Frigg in. It’s not exactly guilt tripping her, it’s just taking advantage of her need to prove herself better than the rest.
I don’t really get the continuous “let’s guess the character’s character class” game in these comments… the cast page lists the character class for you :)

God, I love Syr’nj.
omigod a biophilliac

Technically, the correct term would be dendrophiliac.
Syr’nj isn’t actually a tree… hard as that may be to believe.
aaaannnnnnnddddd? what? love is suddenly bound by race huh? friggin racist!
(In the case it’s species)
I’ve had mornings where I woke up smelling of blood and sleep serums. I’m not sure if the dreams were good or bad, I can never remember anything.
did you wake up in an ice bath, with a scar on your side?
Well, no scar…but it was in a clinic in Tijuana.
It’s just not a party without Frigg
“And, dammit, she’s wearing that Special Shirt. You know, the one that the three of us and the gnome seedling were all wearing.”
Damn. I didn’t know Syr’nj multiclassed as a ranger.
well she did have that special medic training… I’m sure she can hold her own and compare to a ranger.
Racial benefits as a wood elf, dude.
Ah, blackmail. Not the form I expected, I must admit, but Syr’s revealing new facets all the time.
It’s not blackmail at all. It’s just doing someone a favor, so that they owe you one in return.
So it’s guilt mail?
From what we’ve seen of Syr’nj, I’d expect it’s less blackmail and more of saying whatever needs to be said to get the louts to do someone a good turn.
It’s Guiltmail +2.
It’s got a +9 against Friggs.
Alt text on this one is hilarious, and I don’t even know why. Possibly for the mental image of Gravedust shouting at kids to get off his lawn.
Well, it wasn’t as hilarious until I read your comment. XD Though it was amusing alone.
You mean Gravedust shouting at kid’s *ghosts* to get off his lawn ;)
I don’t get why gravedust has issues with the speed limit… I admit.
Ever driven behind an elderly driver?
The only time I notice I’m behind an elderly driver is if they are the type who think that 35 is the “sweet spot” on their engine.
The other kind generally pass ME gunning their engines and flashing their dentures at me.
The joys of living in a town with ten retirement communities.
It’s a good thing the others aren’t drunk, or they’d just have collapsed in fits of giggles over “her foliage was thick upon it”
I must admit I think both Byron and Gravedust feel a bit out of character on this page, being all “Lets not go save her”. Hmm.
Perhaps it’s not the characters that are out of place but your perceptions of the characters?
I think it just might be the fact that the characters as you know them have grown since this scene took place. The flashback / flash-forward thing does make it a bit confusing though. . .
Yay for character development!
Cheers,
Cote
Byron, I love you. Don’t be a jerk.
Byron was always more of a business man rather that just plain “nice guy”. It’s just that he has a strong work ethic.
I believe that this is a “times are tough” scenario.

Her foliage was thick upon it ?
Whaddya mean, Syr’nj ?
For anyone who’s confused, foliage = hair.
Silly, stay with the CSI parallels.
Foliage = Epithelials.
though I guess syrnj did use a dagger and shield earlier with surprising efficiency, so maybe she just chooses to make herself useful in other ways in battle…
*love her
And please for the love of god someone sell Byron a helm before they dash off on this rescue …
Syr: Jean Luc, blow up the damn ship!
Bryon: No!…. NOOOOOO *throws ax at model ‘sky boat’*
You broke your little airships.
I think this comic just hit its stride. Keep it up!
Syr is awesome. That is all.
Nice comic!
They’re getting paid in firepower.
Byron is pretty educated too..

Love the page, but . . . am I the only one who noticed Syr’s bandolier switch from under her right shoulder to over it between panels 1 and 2?
I didn’t notice.
maybe Syr is a Ranger with max points in Heal(Medicine) with skill focus and as well as max craft alchemy
Never actually cast any heal spells or anything that would even suggest she has magical healing ability far as i ‘ve seen.
Like when you are LFG:heals and a Rogue chimes in “I got First Aid!”
I don’t really get the continuous “let’s guess the character’s character class” game in these comments… the cast page lists the character class for you :)
Syr’nj is a field medic.
ah, byron being a mercenary dick yet again
