AAaA Harky 2
What a magnificent proof of concept for this sub-series. TBH, I had my reservations about whether these Q&As would be worth it, artistically. Would they break the reader’s immersion in the story by being so blatantly non-canon?
Or, as it happens, would they make the reader more engaged with certain characters by showing them in contexts that we never, ever could have put them in as part of the main story? Apparently it was option #2!
From earlier comments:
Kamiko Neko: Ducks (at least some species), in fact, have ridiculously long penes relative to their body size. (They curl up inside the cloaca when not in use…and thus are also ridiculously skinny relative to body size.)
Flo: Guys.
This was definitely one of my favourites among these. Not to mention how these guys were handled in the story.
Nowadays these things are easily the type “Well of course they are gay, ‘cose they have to be this day and age. Or maybe they’re straight even, ‘cose Harky really sees himself as a woman and Gondolessa is in love with that. Lets focus on that!”
They are just gay. And that’s mostly the extent of it. And not like it’s pure tokenism, ‘cose the other characters do take notice to it and have differing opinions about it. But still…
The story, while recognizing that they indeed are gay, also recognizes that this really isn’t their story. It doesn’t focus on it. It just mentions it at times, ‘cose yes, they still are like thus, but the focus is in the adventurers and heroes of all sides and their struggles against each other and the world in general.
If there was ever a spinoff that told the life of Harky and Gondolessa, their meeting, love and loss (spoilers), then it’d be all fair and gay-me to focus on how gay they are. I’d see it playing out like fantasy-version of Vicious and I would love every second of it.
But this wasn’t that story. And for that I’m thankful in this day when it seems that a tale can only have a great story or a strong message and there’s no midway to be seen.
Tl;dr: Good show showing good gay stuff in gay and merry way.
Gondolessa’s reactions are absolutely golden.
Especially as he’s watching Harky’s realization… ‘C’mon, babe, figure it out, I know your reaction’s going to be great…’
You know, Harky’s response “That is none of your business” is perfectly undestandable, and it should be the end of this conversation in most cases… but come on. This is not like most cases. The physical disparity between these two lovers raises too many questions. I mean, one of them has no lips, for Pete’s sake…
Hey, T: Now that Flo is going by a different name, it might be nice to update her bio on the “Crew” tab with her new name and pronouns. Just happened to think of that, so I figured I’d call it to your attention.
I’ll give it a shot. We’ll see if I have any trouble. (Most of that info isn’t current for any of us by now…)
