RIP, Penk’s helmet, by which I mean “actually don’t RIP because even your soul has been erased.” Flo’s love affair with the helmet’s look was brief, and its fate was probably sealed after Frigg judged it “the dumbest-lookin’ hat in all Arkerra.” I don’t think it looked that bad, but I do think it was probably good that we lost it for story reasons.
Penk has been trying to maintain a little distance between the sensitive musician he was, the one whom Magda likes, and the AVATAR OF TECTONICUS that Harky has made him, the one whom Hammerhead respects. His going around masked has reflected that. But his personal arc will lead him in a different direction.
Ha! I had forgotten that Penk lost his hat; I just had the vague impression of thinking the armor looked extra-lame on the second read-through.
Curse you literal plot armour! Curse youuuu!
I mean every else starts disintegrating completely the moment it touches them, but with Penk it was kind enough to let the helmet slip off first. :D
I kinda thought the helmet looked neat(granted not practical at all with all those convenient handles) but I get why it would have to go for symbolism you were talking about
