Annotated 6-19
There is at least a bit of a purpose to the fact that Gigundus’ dialogue is so… “Tyrannical Threat of the Day Calendar”: Scarlett is the one really putting words in his mouth and she’s not the world’s greatest improviser. That said, it does seem like he could address this ragtag band of adventurers a bit more specifically: most of what he has to say could be addressed to literally anyone who might defy his (Scarlett’s) authority.
Kudos to Phil for finding Ten Cent Soviet, a dialogue font that calls up vague associations with the Eastern church and Mother Russia’s long history of stern, iron-fisted rule.
As we near the end of our first volume, Byron at last begins to come into his own as team leader. At this point, Phil and I knew that he would not retain that title in any meaningful sense for long.
Ah, you folks missed out on the massive merch opportunity here!
Official Guilded Age “Tyrannical Threat of the Day Calendars” could have been a goldmine!
Being a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church, having multiple stories regarding the stern, iron-fisted rule of Mother Russia…I would buy so many of those.
“I am the Lord of Arkerra.” No respect for the other Heads of Houses, then. Speaking of which, how did Gigundus ever manage to become one of them? I mean, he apparently doesn’t have any followers apart from the Sisterhood, and that just doesn’t seem enough to gain such an influential position.
It would seem to me that the Sisterhood was quite a big deal B.F. (Before Frigg). They weren’t just present in Gastonia; there’s at least the branch that Frigg burned down (“the nunnery in Redgrove”).
Agreed, If Klux face here even remotely had a chance at making head of house then he’d have to be followed and/or worshiped in a lot of areas by a lot of people. But the fact that he’s the only religious figure on the house heads means there’s likely only a very small number of religions that aren’t a handful of people.
And yes, “Tyrannical Threat of the Day Calendars” could have been a very popular thing, even if it was just a bunch of bound note cards.
It’s not the real Gigundus. As we find out on the next page, this is just a construct. The real Gigundus died.
The original Gigundus might have been an inspiring leader for all we know. At the very least, he managed to convince an entire church to follow him. He’s probably the reason why the Church of the Bloody Eye seems to be the primary religion in Gastonia.
Byron, is now really the best time to toke up?
Saint Cyril didn’t die for this!…grumble…grumble…
“Ten Cent Soviet” make me wonder, did you guys have to purchase the rights to use certain fonts in your comic?
