There is at least a bit of a purpose to the fact that Gigundus’ dialogue is so… “Tyrannical Threat of the Day Calendar”: Scarlett is the one really putting words in his mouth and she’s not the world’s greatest improviser. That said, it does seem like he could address this ragtag band of adventurers a bit more specifically: most of what he has to say could be addressed to literally anyone who might defy his (Scarlett’s) authority.

Kudos to Phil for finding Ten Cent Soviet, a dialogue font that calls up vague associations with the Eastern church and Mother Russia’s long history of stern, iron-fisted rule.

As we near the end of our first volume, Byron at last begins to come into his own as team leader. At this point, Phil and I knew that he would not retain that title in any meaningful sense for long.
