Annotated LiaHT 4
All in all, I don’t think we’ve ever taken Guilded Age itself as unseriously as we do here. It’s just a story with neat crap in it, kids, stop freakin’ thinking. If you’re analyzing it, you’re probably getting too old for it! As you can see from all the rest of these annotations, for the rest of the series, we took a… different approach.
Not that we ever quite lost sight of the fact that we needed “wizards an’ elves an’ shit” to make the rest of it interesting. We were never going to read like an Existentialist drama.
Next time out, the mighty Guilded Age characters have to interact with shadowy figures who’ve been observing their every move! No, not Carol and HR: you the readers.
Where did that fat idol come from, and how did Frigg (of all people) know what to do with it?
You see it briefly in the first page, after that it’s a case of ‘crazy shit just happens’ as Frigg puts it.
Well, research, obviously… Oh, wait, this is Frigg. Yeah, that’s weird.
Frigg is seen carrying it on the first two pages (in the background, silhouette, …). It’s a piece of quest-essential equipment that the group has to drag around to unlock the quest-goal.
I always chuckle at Bandit going in for the treasure bath.
I don’t know why, but the ending of that Simpsons episode has always stuck with me, even though I only ever saw it once. Any time I’m reading a story where it feels like there’s no point to it, I’m likely to quote “just a bunch of stuff that happened.”
