They’ve all seen Raiders of the Lost Ark. When faced with a vortex of mystic energy, keep your eyes shut.
And hey, they get out of the temple and they’re finally square with Best! Then he can join the party as a real fellow and treat each of them with the love and respect they all deserve!
Group hug!
At least I’m not the only one who went “Magic coat rack?” I didn’t see it on the previous pages, so I’m not sure if it’s coming (through the vortex) or going (through the vortex). Can someone point it out to me if it was there?
I don’t think that’s a coat rack, I think it’s the stand that the basin was originally resting on before Best saw that he wasn’t the great and foretold hero.
I just checked and there was no sign of anything like that that hat-rack thing anywhere in the “real world” so it is unlikely that the basin opened a trans-dimensional rift.
Hang on, Full plate is (I believe) -8, Tower Shield -4, and Dwarf would be a +2 circumstance bonus as an assisted check. Or does no-one else’s DM let them run crap like that by without question?
It’s a cast iron torch stand called a brazier. There are two at the base of the stairs and two at the top just behind the gryphon heads & wings. They can be seen (though not that clearly I admit) on the chapter title page and page 13. This one’s falling into the vortex.
I suppose this kind of thing is why people sometimes go overboard making sure that every prop that will be important in any scene appears in the establishing shot.
Love the mottled rocky background effect, this page particularly. It works really well with the blue.
This and the last pages were really nice, but I think the sequence was a little confusing. When I entered the site I though I had missed a page. I think it missed a panel showing the vortex forming or something like it, not only the crack of last page.
But again, that’s only my opinion.
About other matters, I am willing to think that Best saw something very revealing and atonishing about himself in the basin, probably something related to the sepia world, that’s why he’s enraged and acted like a selfish moron last page. I don’t think he’s being douche, only chocked. People do idiotic things when chocked.
Also, he’s been a douchebag all along, you can’t simply expect him to be completely different now under pressure. So, my vote goes to “Don’t cut the end of rope”.
I don’t think it’s in the character of any members of the party – even our current Best – to just plain cut someone loose, kill them Lion King style. Maybe Frigg. Maybe. But he’d have needed to push one of her personal buttons, and “slowing down party objectives” doesn’t bother her the way it bothers the other 3.
I’m not a psychiatric professional, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them diagnosed Best with a delusional disorder, above and beyond mere douchebaggery.
Though one might retort that people will diagnose anybody with something or other, these days.
It is called a magical weapon.
BTW ever played VTM: Bloodlines? Have you ever played low strength melee character? Well… it is really funny to see a char with a strength of 2 or 3, bash the concrete floor open with the sledgehammer…
There are five of them, Gravedust is hanging on to Frigg, while Syr’Nj and Byron climb the other rope… and Best decides to be the third man on a rope… making him undeniably slowed…
….Byron will have to reach down and haul him up in time.
This looks like the best ditching opportunity.
It is a really awesome-looking ditch…
…..Am i the only one who hears the “Indiana Jones”-theme right now? ;) ^^
Well now that I’ve read this comment, I do.
Best, who said you could climb up that rope?
…those spectral ‘G’s hovering above the rest of the party’s heads?
Who said he couldn’t?
Does smashing the bowl and possibly causing the vortex automatically mean he has to die in it?

Or! Byron/Payet rematch.
Oh you optimist you.
Or! They untie the rope from the axe before he gets all the way up.
And resurrect him later, but, y’know.
Did you think of the same thing I did when you saw the last panel?
-insert Indiana Jones theme-
Byron: No time for love, Doctor Syrn’j!
Logically, I can’t possibly know that.
But probably, yes.
Yet another problem solved with a axe.
That is one mystical hat-stand.
Probably a +2 at least!
At least I’m not the only one who went “Magic coat rack?” I didn’t see it on the previous pages, so I’m not sure if it’s coming (through the vortex) or going (through the vortex). Can someone point it out to me if it was there?
3 pages back. Its one of two candle holders at the base of the stairs.
leavehimleavehimleavehimleavehimleavehimleavehimleavehim
/I agree with this person’s idea’s completely
He is the last, so just cut his rope.
Didn’t see Best on that rope initially. Thought for sure that the cosmic energy was gonna turn him into a villain after he got left behind.
I cannot lie, I was hoping for something more newt like.
But then he’d get better!
You know that vortex would only spit him out again!
That last panel is amazing.
So Frigg’s rope-climbing… wearing plate mail… and with Gravedust hanging off her shield.
Dayum. $5 says she beats stickface to the top even with the added dwarf weight.
I dunno, she’s supposed to be a collus, a legendary thing, but I suspect Syr’nj gains.
Inconceivable.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Climb is Str based, Frigg wins.
They’re Pinky, they’re Pinky, and the , Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain.
Narf. Point!
Zort!
“Are you pondering what I’m pondering?”
“I think so, Syr’ng, but koala golems just seem silly. Don’t you agree?”
This would be the perfect opportunity to give Best a taste of his own medicine.
Nice to see that Gravedust’s accuracy with missile weapons is not limited to his arrows.
Dwarves are ALWAYS proficient with axes… ;)
where is Frigg’s Shield? Or did she have to leave it behind?
I think that is what Tombdirt is hanging on to.
Wrong! Tombdirt IS her shield! Now with +5 funny face and +1 wit.
Don’t forgot the +3 to Speak With Dead.
What’s with the glowing coat rack in the last panel?
I don’t think that’s a coat rack, I think it’s the stand that the basin was originally resting on before Best saw that he wasn’t the great and foretold hero.
No… I was wrong, the basin was sitting on a square of marble or something. I have no idea what that coat rack looking thing is.
I’m actually rooting for Best now. What. Writers how you do that.
Fukkin writing how does it work?
You’re making it work…. RIGHT NOW.
Guilded Inception.
BAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
I just checked and there was no sign of anything like that that hat-rack thing anywhere in the “real world” so it is unlikely that the basin opened a trans-dimensional rift.
I guess it’s one of those burning-coal-pan stands (anyone knows the name of those?) turned upside down that can be seen on or on the .
That was supposed to be “… that can be seen on page 13 or on the chapter cover” with links.
censers?
Brazier?
that’s one hell of an ACP Frigg’s dealing with. Full Plate, Tower Shield, Dwarf …..she’s looking at least at a -15 to her roll.
Hang on, Full plate is (I believe) -8, Tower Shield -4, and Dwarf would be a +2 circumstance bonus as an assisted check. Or does no-one else’s DM let them run crap like that by without question?
This is a MMO, remember? Most of them don’t take armor weight and bag inventory into account.
God I hate that. Why’s everything so weightless these days?
the unbearable lightness of being…in an MMO.
(why didn’t they just go through that opening)
If this were D&D they’d all be jumping through that portal.
What, the dwarf can’t climb a rope? Did he skip that day in gym class?
I now have a beautiful mental image of Gravedust…skipping rope. Thank you.
The coatrack is one of a pair of the things at the bottom of the steps leading up to the Basin, as shown on http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapter-11/chapter-11-page-13/
Can’t tell if anything was sitting on them because of the word balloons.
This is what happens when you stop typing in the Numbers.
Just wanted to point out that the “magic coat rack” is in last wednesday’s comic, page 13 of chapter 11. So it’s not from the other world
Hey folks, didja know the GA Forums are back up?
Good luck in getting these guys to use it. . . .
Hmm. If they kill Best, would that affect Sepia World?
That’a a good question I was wondering myself.
Maybe cause Bandit to appear again? =P
coat rack?
…

Narcissistic personality disorder, maybe. Or histerical, considering last page.
Look at that crack in the floor! I wonder what Best’s strength score would be?
It is called a magical weapon.
BTW ever played VTM: Bloodlines? Have you ever played low strength melee character? Well… it is really funny to see a char with a strength of 2 or 3, bash the concrete floor open with the sledgehammer…
Well, to be fair, a character with 3 str is already above most humans by VTM rules. Nothing a good use of Potence couldn’t solve ;)

It looks like someone just flushed the basin.
Well, they were circling around the bowl earlier.
