New Comics Every Weekday - Written by T Campbell & Phil Kahn - Illustrated by John & Jason Waltrip
He is SO INFURIATED by Syr’nj’s lack of a proper chain of command. Look at those last-panel fists!
Last panel: The ladies are checking out Ardaic’s tail.
So flat and smooth, like a nice birchwood stump.
The following is the canon immediate thought from the stenographer:
Yo Dawg I heard yo liked chains so we put chains on yo chains so you can command while you command! If that don’t work, we put commands on yo chains so yo can chain yo command.
“The Gastonian Wood Elves”, huh? So she’s committed her people to be full citizens like the gnomes, not autonomous allies like the Sky Elves.
Sky elves do have the advantage of altitude to aid their aloof attitude as autonomous allies.
Wood elves must maintain the moral high ground, since their actual ground can’t go higher.
The Alliterati strike again!
What makes you think the Sky Elves are autonomous allies ?
I feel a little like there is a panel missing between yestrday’s strip and today’s one… The conversation seems to have missed a step.
Yeah, it does seem a bit… confusing. But if we all just pretend that it was Ardaic and not Syr’nj who said that first word balloon in the first panel, then everything makes sense again. So let’s just pretend that.
Yeah, I agree here. Doesn’t seem to make sense for Syr to have said the first line.
Yeah, I think the speech balloons got switched in the first panel. It makes a lot more sense that way.
It does look a bit better if Ardaic has the first line, you’re right. I know when I do speech balloons, I tend to lay out all the text before I draw the bubbles… I stuff up the tails quite a lot…
There is no error. Syr’Nj is making a (correct) assumption about what Ardaic is going to bring up.
Sorry that it wasn’t clearer. We’ll do better in the future.
That there, that is character development making the story more compelling, RIGHT there. Suddenly I find myself looking speculatively at the stenographer…hmmmm
Could be what got the consulate of the the Elves in such a huff.
“The Elven Stenographer” the next in a series of fantasy romances! Sequel to “Funny, You Don’t Look Druidish…” and “Unicorns are Perverts!”
“Dear Graiya, I never thought this could happen to me but …”
Unicorns are perverts ? Well, well, well … I’ve never thought of Twi’ that way, but …
Ardaic is basically advising her to appoint someone else to lead the Peacekeepers. Which is very sensible advice, given her new political role.
Hmm… that’s part of it.
Reading between the lines of his other advice: maintain a full-time presence in the Council, or they’ll be *nobody* watching your interests (or your back). And that includes watching out for the Wood Elves now living in the capital.
(Re: Cangeghem’s warning her about antagonizing Annunziata, Miyamoto, and possibly Jarvis to boot.)
(Remember kids… keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer.)
No, keep your friends close and your enemies dead!
take a page out of khorne’s book – keep everyone dead!
You keep your friends close, and your enemies in a shallow grave!
The hover text makes me wonder if the house of houses is unaccustomed to having their every word and proceedings recorded in such fashion… perhaps some feathers are rustled specifically at the presence of the lady stenographer?
Entirely probable. Why would a politician like having every fake promise and back-handed compliment and all of those slimy political deal exchanges recorded for future reference? They probably feel like they’re on trial.
So what is he saying? That she should have delegated her house spot to another wood elf noble that’s less upsetting and more in line with the current politics so she can go back to leading the wood elves and the Peace-makers and stay out of their hair? I would make a totally crappy politician…I either over-think it, read too much between the lines, or just don’t pick up the subtle hints. I also believe in fairness, so there ya go.
Just got me a promotion to Minister of Communication, yea boy.
*alternate text* – panel 4.
“The armies have their chain of command… and you… you brought your christmas tree.”
Really not sure whether he’s suggesting that the stenographer be given more responsibility or that Syr get rid of the steno and appoint some second in commands.
It seems that he’s suggesting that she needs more support staff to delegate to, in addition to the stenographer. He’s making the observation that she is woefully underprepared for the Gastonian bureaucracy.
I didn’t quite get it the first time I read the page, either, but I think this ^ pretty much sums it up.
She reminds me of Mina from LoEG.
awww noooooooooooooooooooooooo, i’ve caught up :( now i have to wait like everybody else :/
love the stories and the comic tho :D
Seriously though you only have to wait until tomorrow.
This daily updating thing is HARDCORE. May Graiya give you strength, guys!
I actually enjoy reading through comics at their update rate, or in 3-5 page bursts, more than overdosing on the archives over a night or two. You really get to take in the art, the dialogue, the page. And the comments, oh man. GA especially has some fine-ass peoples around when it comes to the comments section. Welcome and enjoy along.
Guessing … guessing … She’s going to start a letter-writing campaign and crowdsource the leadership of the wood elves? Is close? :D
