I get the whole poly-mesh terrain thing… but… why are virtual skies always weird circuit-patterned gridlines with “energy” bouncing all over it? Is that some kind of metaphor for “the great beyond”? Because if so, this is half-ironically redundant, and at least a few layers of recursive.
It’s because an actual early-development background would either be solid black, solid grey, or blue with crudely sketched clouds. The former would look cool, but I guess would seem too underwhelming for most. Also interesting is how the wireframe seems to properly occlude instead of letting you see through the mesh.
i thinks it a kind of subconcious “god in the machine” reference. the vast sky is nothing more than a great big circuitboard in a giant universal computer:)

Different architecture. Windows would have bluescreened by now (and wouldn’t that be an interesting sight to hand the cultists?). I figure that this is a “home brew” OS, nothing else seems likely to be abble to handle several hundred instances with several thousand “routines” each second.
Yeah, hey, Brother Tom. Hate to bust your nuts over something so small but… we’ve all watched The Matrix. This whole “Dark World” thing is so last millenium.
Like Joe above, I’m super jazzed to see that cyber-themed game is, in fact, not only relevant but a Big Thing. Nicely done, setting up for that early!
This page is gorgeous, too – I REALLY love the detail of the sort of miasma, I guess, splitting apart around the edges to show the landscape of the next world. Possibly I’m just interpreting things that aren’t there but I do like the sort of suggestion of hands/limbs in those tendrils; but either way, it’s a beautiful page. Great job as always, Misters Waltrip!
MAN I’M REALLY EXCITED FOR THE GRID, LET’S DO THIS SHIT
Thank you, Asfriedhr. And you’re exactly right. That’s the magic of the Cult of Countless Limbs at work, so there has to be some limbs in there somewhere. ;-D
I have to say, even for early development, that’s not a very interesting landscape. It’s just a flat outdoor area. I realize trees would be added later, but if this were really a futuristic world, the environments would be urban or outer space, not a natural landscape. I think it’s probably something else.
I mean, that’s not PROOF that it’s not the cyberpunk game, but there’s no EVIDENCE that it’s the cyberpunk game. There’s nothing futuristic about the environment at all; the only thing “cyber” about this at all is that it’s a video game.
I think it’s actually meant more as a game-within-a-game, in which case it isn’t a futuristic game world, but the game world a futuristic game world would make.
Be on the look out for those light cycles guys.
Their world is now open and available to all of us! Yes, to ALL OF US!
HAX!
Any way this goes, its all going to end in tears…
The wire frame of reality. See and grab it and you can modify space and time to no end.
Backwards Matrix.
I knew it.

It’s just to make them look “digital”, like everything else is in this world/game.

It has a black-with-green-lines texture on it.
They’re still rendering themselves, but having to donate frames per second to let the characters into it move smoothly makes all of that slow down.

You should have used a skybox! I mean seriously! ;) ;)
Hey, hey guys, remember back when we very first learned about the Sepia World, and how it was mentioned that Hurricane was launching a cyberpunk game?
It may still be too early to say “Called It”, but I’m still gearing it up.
And in the end, the cultists crossing over will be nothing more than an Easter Egg referring to KoA.
Do you really think they will introduce an entirely new world this late? (I thought the door would lead to Sepia World, but it sure looks different.)
BTW, this might be what Best fell into.
That’s what I was going to say! I think the cultists find Best, and he becomes the new “Big-Bad”!
Nooo just noooo. Please noooo.Let Death shit elf be dead.
Good call!
Behold! Brothers! Diamond head and Waikiki beach!
…no, wait; that’s just rural Utah.
And as someone living in rural Utah, you forgot the abundance of LDS (Mormon) churches. :P
I’ve had Multiwinia installed for ages. Looks like it’s time to play it.

Whatever happened to good old Abort, Retry, Fail?

you ain’t my king. -.-
That’s treason, girlbot.
It’s when the wire-frame tank firing triangle shaped shells rolls past that they all scream and run.
Spectre’s Challenge. Nice.
Oh, and “We’re going off the grid”.
First thing that happens to the cultists crossing into Cyberia is they get thrashed by Best riding a light-harley wielding a power-axxor.
Loved the graphics of that!!!
“To View this Dark World you need to purchase the Texture, Creatures, Physics and Deity DLCs. Would you like to purchase them now?”
Does anyone else think the stone gate looks suspiciously similar to a Star Gate?
You’ve seen one interdimensional portal, you’ve seen them all. Really, there are only so many possible frames for a Gate.
I use 8 concentric, geodesic hexes. :p
I use 14 Obsidian blocks.
3 Marble Blocks here and additional 4 to make the Scrying Pool.
BRAINS!
The portal from Wolfenstein…
Okay, so… we’re all in agreement then… it’s a Star/Nether/Looking pool-portal powered by dismembered bodies…
So … uh … I guess the piece of fabric are all of what’s left of Ashok … :-S
Gah ! Pieces ! I meant pieces !
Behold! The thirteenth floor!
THIS. The interplay between the worlds is starting to resemble that more, and I’m really psyched. :D
Yes, exactly! Definitely not the Matrix.
I wonder if any of these cultists have long range ranged attacks. No? Erm. Well.
BEHOLD! The power of no collision meshes!
“Let us go forth now into–AAAAAIIIIIIEEEEE!”
“Oh my gods, he just fell through the ground!”
“What new sorcery is this?”
Shit just got real!
No, if they’d passed into HR’s world, shit would’ve gotten real. As it stands, shit just got a different kind of fake than before.
Well, looks like Ashok fell through the world again. Better put in a ticket. Check the world map, see if it tells you where you are.
Looks a lot like Missouri during tornado season.
I think it looks a lot like Somewhere in Nevada.
No guest comics this time?

Darwinia?!
The Thirteenth Floor?!
Battlezone?!
Detroit?
Initiate enhanced imaging :o
Oh look, a hidden unfinished area!
All the blood and rags around the edges… Brother Ashok exploded when the gate opened?
Yuck.
Nice detail, though!
The mesh grid build space was inside of him, as it is inside of all of us.
Blonde…Brunette…Redhead…Exploded Cultist…..

True enough. It does seem like it would be more the space *between* the games (or the game and reality), than the other game itself.
Nothing like letting a few cultists run around in your bare code.
So this is why I hit my keyboard and cry “cheating computer” when playing games. The code has been infected with the madness!
Sounds like it would tickle…
It’s Escape from Cyberia. He’s giving them access to another game.
I think it’s actually meant more as a game-within-a-game, in which case it isn’t a futuristic game world, but the game world a futuristic game world would make.
Circular logic goes nowhere.
I love the detail of the energy around the edge of the gate forming countless limbs
Alright, who left Port 666 open again?
I’m beholding
It sure is taking Second Life a long time to render all the shops selling porn.
