That was a mighty fateful key tap. And somehow the dither? flourish? in the preceding panel makes it much more frightening.
Two worlds are being thrown into the fire and the guy who did it was just guessing.

There seems to be a period of time we haven’t witnessed during which HR went from trying to rescue the five and sort of “fix” things to rambling about godhood and partaking in human sacrifice of sorts. This period can be best summed up by a quote from the previous page imo: “I’ve been listening to these madmen all day…”.

I don’t think rescuing the five was his intention so much as it was learn from it in order to ascend to godhood. I think apotheosis was his goal all along and he’s just going mad from being frustrated by his failed attempts.

I’m questioning if that was his intention at all. I think we (most of us?) initially assumed that the intent was that the five would survive being removed from the game. But that was really just an assumption, I think. (IIRC, I asked a question related to that in one of the Q&A sessions and they politely said that they wouldn’t answer it.)

Kudos to the writers for making us go back and recheck our assumptions. They didn’t guide us down the wrong path but just left the door open.

See now, I don’t think I can agree. One would think killing them fairly easy. Pull the plug on their life support and all.

Doesn’t mean his intentions are benevolent, but I think, at least at the time he was trying, he wanted them alive.

see, the way i caught it, he was trying to kill them;) rigged the game against them, yet some “force” interfered with it to allow the 5 to survive. pulling the plug on their life support proves nothing, his godhood is proved through total control of the game universe.

they defy him;) but yeah, think he’s lost it a little in his quest to understand “how” the 5(or maybe destiny?fate? another god?) defy his will.

This makes me wonder what all that magic would normally do if HR hadn’t intervened due to still being distracted by the cat videos or something. Would it peter out as if it were merely a fancy levitation effect, or could the spell make some sort of lasting signal that would basically put them on hold until someone answered? Or like evil magic tends to do, would it cause the whole building to collapse at the first sign of failure?
