I was thinking more of how some groups had diplomacy carefully integrated with roleplaying and the backstory of the setting, would publish official statements and whatnot, and had to negotiate with other groups whose policies were based on “Woohoo! We r the awesomest!”

Oh, and guess who had more gunboats?

Anakin Skywalker referred to it as “aggressive negotiations.” Which involves lightsabers…

I wouldn’t be surprised for Gastonia to keep tabs on its adventurers, former or otherwise, after the Peacemakers proved their capabilities.

“Rendar the Renderer” sounds like such a Savage Race name.

Although, “render”, besides speaking of dismemberment, is also a computer graphics term.

He could also just be the guy who processes fat for soap.

Yeah, ‘render’ has quite a few meanings. I like that idea of him originally having been the guy who rendered fat, but through circumstance and RNG ended up becoming this legendary engineer. Y’know? Like one of those useless soapmaker dwarves that immigrated to your fortress, who you just stuck into mechanics because you needed a dwarf there, and after a few years he ended up being the awesomest of your engineers.

You know who this guy sounds like? Byron’s friend in adventuring we heard of a couple of chapters back, who built mechanical fighters to support the Gastonian army.

I BELIEVE Rendar was mentioned in one of the very first chapters by his brother Sundar, while he and Byron were drinking. And yes, later his machines are the ones that the new guildies spar against in training.

Rendar, Sundar, are both brothers, Byron beat the hell outta Sundar, Rendar is, in deed, the brother that built autofighters. If you look at the Dossiers, you’ll also see byron’s morbidly obese friend.

I’d like to think that, but also that Rendar is actually named after Hurricane’s custom built rendering engine, with Sundar being the audio system.

Look again, he is pointing to someone besides Sundar. In fact, Sundar and another character we’ve seen before are featured in those write-ups. Located in panel 3.

As you can see in Panel 3, Sundar is the guy on the page on the far right. They’re talking about Rendar, the guy in the middle (Braggadocio’s page is under his).
