Note: I also think he won’t be showing it much outwardly, much like Byron, but that the focus, etc. talked of will be shown more at first, until/unless he discovers his mates body or something. Then it’s frothy-mouth time.
Like all good crazy heroes. There will be an opportunity to “find” the desired and will thus start the madness on a mission, usually at the expense of all nearby.
We’ve seen an avian executed (OK technically, seen former-boss-of-Syr’Nj resolve that executing a certain nameless imprisoned avian was necessary). Dramatic conventions suggest that that avian was Yalaria, but we don’t really know one way or the other yet.
Funny how people don’t care about her when she’s gleefully trying to kill the heroes, but give her a few pages in a cell and a lover and suddenly we don’t want her dead.
Maybe he grabbed with his talons, then switched to his beak? Hmm, still would leave him a lot less balanced flight-wise than using his feet. Well, he IS unbalanced after all… :-D
Hm. I get the impression that Rana’s going to be very single-minded and absent of personality, except for said single-mindedness.
Can you be single-minded and still be an interesting character? Theoretically I don’t see why not, but I suppose I’ve yet to see it.
…Hm. Actually, I take that back. The dragoon-character in Fortuna Saga and Hymns of the Apostate was pretty awesome, and…perhaps single-minded. Certainly an extremely effective killing machine that spoke hardly ever, and yet certainly had motivations (though what those were exactly is kind of unclear).
Curious? http://www.fortunasaga.com/ (Note that Fortuna Saga precedes Hymns of the Apostate, so if you want to start at the beginning, I suggest starting at the beginning of Fortuna Saga, and only after finishing it moving onto Hymns.)
Okaayyy…. I’m confused. Your phonetics read as short “a” sounds to me (which still rhymes with “malaria”). Long ones would look more like “Yay — Lay — Ree — Ay.”
Crazy, headstrong, romantic issues akimbo?
I believe we have a bird-Frig.
But does he swear/know memes? That’s the true anti-frigg requirement
I’d think more the Anti-Byron, actually. Particularly with all the talk of “unhinged” and “madness.”
Note: I also think he won’t be showing it much outwardly, much like Byron, but that the focus, etc. talked of will be shown more at first, until/unless he discovers his mates body or something. Then it’s frothy-mouth time.

Looking forward to it!
Oh yes, her execution is soon is it not?
Doesn’t matter if he gets there before, during, or after. We’re gonna have a show.
Watch as the winds carry me towards my prey.
Geez, Gastonia had better not have executed Yalaria. That would just about fill my sadness quota for the year.

It was Yalaria. I’ve tried to post the link twice, but it won’t show up.
Ah, well, it’s the first page of chapter 16.
Yeah, I know, I went back and checked too. I’m just…really, really hoping that she hasn’t been executed.
Funny how people don’t care about her when she’s gleefully trying to kill the heroes, but give her a few pages in a cell and a lover and suddenly we don’t want her dead.
Consider how Frigg acts during battle. Consider how that looks to the other side. Heck, consider Byron while we’re at it.
I think the whole point is to show that these “savage” races are just as many shades of dark and light as the people on Gastonia’s side.
Yes its odd how someone who is trying to kill someone you care about can be related to when they are no longer trying to kill them.
Ewe guys are so punny.
baaah, that was terrible
that sounded funnier in my head – sorry
Acting sheepish are you?
Don’t feel bad. A lot of things I say out loud sound better in my head. I think it’s the superior acoustics.
Echo-cho-cho-o-o-o
So this is why Jarvis never speaks. Everything simply sounds better in his own head.
Is she still alive? I mean I remember some mention of an execution but I don’t remember mention of it happening.
I think Syr’nj may have been her saving grace but that may have changed after the death of her father by another Avian.
Dude’s got some jaw strength.
He must love Maxibon.
About the floating text… using the sheep for what? … never mind, I don’t want to know.
Any Scots in the area?
If the world is a game, and some of the Savage Races characters are players, then… maybe?
Maybe the ‘savage’ races play buzkashi.
Motion to call the bird dude Hurricane Rana, or Hurricanrana for short.
Rana’s missing his better half.
Rana ½.
Maybe he’d feel better if he used Shampoo?
Breaking the pun chain, but it reminds me of why some people find it weird that the city of “Ranma” was localized as “Dalaam” in Earthbound.
“Da” doesn’t work as “the” sometimes?
Maybe the localizing crew read that as “da ranma” among the text which would leave “darama/dalaam” as an acceptable romaji substitute.
Anyway, even avians should feel better after some mousse.
Am I the only one here extremely bothered by the fact that he used his mouth and not his talons? haha
Maybe he grabbed with his talons, then switched to his beak? Hmm, still would leave him a lot less balanced flight-wise than using his feet. Well, he IS unbalanced after all… :-D
Hehehe :D
The seven-foot sapient bird-of-prey diving at 175 mph to catch a sheep can use whatever he damn well pleases.
No, you’re right – raptors kill with their feet and use their beaks for tearing their prey into chunks they can swallow.
Perhaps when a bird of prey gets that insanely pissed it channels a t-rex ancestor a little.
Hm. I get the impression that Rana’s going to be very single-minded and absent of personality, except for said single-mindedness.

Sounds like you are describing a certain vehicle for a certain sentient cigar
What? Oh, crap, I *thought* I heard a scream when I lit up…
I’ll trade one sheep for woo—
Where the fuck did my sheep go?
It’s used to build the largest army.
They’ll walk the longest road.
And rally behind Warchief Harky
To give Gastonia what it’s owed.
Great. So Harky took Longest Road from me as well…
Bloody git.
Yeah, sure, I’ve got wood for sheep.
… Scots…
Ye mean “Greeks,” don’t ye…?
(crosses arms and looks fierce and fiery)
Rana’s pectoral reminds me of something. Maybe some MotU character…
Makes me think he’s a high ranking officer of Zeon.
Missing dialogue for panel 1, the image of Rana: “You are all weirdos!”
Oh dear Lord now I won’t ever be able to get that out of my head…ROFL ROFL ROFL!!!
Yeah, Harky, get over that whole madness thing. Nothing like a little berserking between friends.
I’m guessing we’re taking a trip to landshark town, and that’s the “it” that Penk should see, regarding “the most unhinged of our coalition”.
He’s talking about Rana, who is unhinged due to grief.
You keep using that word.
I do not think it means what you think it means.
I don’t think he is. We’ll find out, but I don’t think he is.
And you were right. Well played.
+1
Is it just me, or does Yalaria rhyme with “malaria?”
Personally, I read it with all long “a” sounds.
Yah – Lah – Ree – Ah.
Well. I like the leaders of the Coalition better than the Gastonian leaders.
Okaayyy…. I’m confused. Your phonetics read as short “a” sounds to me (which still rhymes with “malaria”). Long ones would look more like “Yay — Lay — Ree — Ay.”
Am I wrong?
*Sigh*
This was meant as a reply to Mujaki.
So maybe I got my “long” and “short” terms mixed up. Apologies!
But I’ve always read “malaria” as mah-LAIR-ee-ah, not mah-lahr-ee-ah.
Let’s call the whole thing off!
