Chapter 31 – Page 10
Special thanks to the Joel Watson for letting us use his likenesses again. Go read premium-level webcomic comic over at hijinksensue.com!
If you’re a new reader coming in from Hijinks Ensue, welcome! This might be a bad time in the story to start, though, so why not go to the first page and dig in?
Pottermon?
Hairy Pokey, actually. It’s not as NSFW as it sounds.
Combining HP and Poke’poke is really NSFL (not safe for life).
Nah man, Harry Pokey is what it’s all about. That’s why you’ve gotta cast ’em all!
Then you… do the Harry Pokey… and you turn yourself around?
That is a very impressive full-on “Lord, save me” eye-roll Shanna’s got going in the last panel behind the mask. :D
Which is ironic because he’s not only better looking than her but webcomic producers contribute more to society these days than most of the ‘journalists’ out there filling up bandwidth.
As much I respect her impending Taxi Driver justice vendetta I can’t imagine Schanaschnozz McSoursurl gets many offers *to* roll eyes at.
Speak for yourself. Big noses are freakin’ *HOT*!
Yes, this is a scientific fact!
As you can read in the scientific paper linked above!
Damn you, Alternate Universe Willis.
damning willis is a universal constant, along with mike banging your mom.
Now that would be interesting; Mike vs. Frigg in every way possible.
That’s a kickstarter comic I’d back.
I’ll take eight!
OMG yes please.
“Mike vs. Frigg in every way possible.”
NSFW or anywhere for that matter.
Don’t you just love how all the best webcomic artists/writers are friends?
My hopes for finding out what’s going on with HR in *any* universe seem to fade with each page….
You could at least pretend to be happy to be there, Shanna. Really sell that disguise!
Hm. I am no graphic artist so I have no idea whether the sort of thing that’s implied here happens a lot at conventions.
On another topic – her “recognisability” even when wearing a mask and silly costume proves that she should go for a nose job and haircut now that she is trying to hide from may-be-killers.
Never really got the whole “domino mask as disguise” thing. Just grab a balaclava at an old Army-Navy surplus shop. Those are still around, aren’t they?
Yes; yes they are. I wouldn’t trade mine; too many memories.
You’ve a point on the recognizability, Thomas, but from a storytelling perspective a character in disguise still needs to be recognizable to the reader first and foremost. Otherwise the creators would have to rely on tricks, such as a “Shanna” caption box with an arrow pointing to her, that tend to look jarring and pull the reader out of the story, unless it’s one of those comics that uses those sorts of devices all the time.
A fair point. And Guilded Age doesn’t use thought bubbles, otherwise you could have an (unrecognisable) Shanna think “credit card – check, phone – check … ok, what else do I need to destroy?”
Is that a shoutout to B^U in the first panel?
Nope.
I meant the three headshots in the upper left corner, not the Hairy Pokey.
And now I have to know more about Hairy Pokey.
Also nope.
Joel isn’t nearly drunk enough on this page. This isn’t believable behavior for him at a convention.
That woman behind Shanna … what’s she doing?
Sniffing her hair?
She’s freaking me out, that’s what she’s doing.
It looks like she’s from the photograph that was rotoscoped for the background. She is the wrong scale for Shanna in the foreground which is why she looks bloated. My guess There is another person in the graph whom Shanna was drawn over because of the way background lady was drawn.
Wait, is the alt-text canon? In this or Fans? I need to know. For, uh, reasons.
The alt text is rarely, if ever, canon.
Certainly not this time.
Shanna’s eyeroll isn’t justified. I mean, what is he supposed to think after that? He is a web cartoonist not a revolutionary, government official or anything that would justify wanting to speak to him privately about anything else. Which makes me wonder why Shanna would want to talk to him, but I suppose we will find that out soon enough.
My guess is he did the artwork for Arkerra?
Not only wrong, but bad memory wrong.
Ah yes. Hijinks Ensue. The webcomic that only recently discovered the virtues of plot… and somehow LOST readers for converting to something readable instead of the ridiculous pointless trash it used to be.
They’ve done a great thing… well… sort of. They’ve done an okay thing… by which I mean they became okay and stopped being terrible.
