It’s called an avatar. I think here people call them gravatars? Because they are guilded age avatars?

Good guess, but that’s not why they’re called Gravatar’s. https://en.gravatar.com/

Gravatar (singular) is a service that allows you to use the same avatar across multiple forums, sites, applications, etc. You create a free account on the service, upload your avatar, and assign it to an e-mail address. If a site takes advantage of Gravatar (as this one does), it will displayed the assigned avatar for your comments. You can assign a different avatar to each of your e-mail addresses. It’s faster and easier than managing your avatars on a site-by-site basis.

I think it does it without a password too which is kind of weird. It goes by name and email, I believe.

Just E-mail. You can change your name as much as you like but if the e-mail stays the same the Gravatar or GA Avatar will remain the same. I tried it a chapter or few back. TurnerBurner and TurnerBurner1 2 different e-mails……hmmmmm and 2 different names…..more experimentation is needed.

That was used a long time back in the archives already, and Phil awarded it a Gold Star the first time it was used. I don’t reckon repeats would qualify.

I’m kinda hoping that in the next strip, Frigg releases an epic-level obscenity, destroying the beast, the comic/readership, and the Internet simultaneously. South Park makes a reference to it next week, after the world recovers. Chuck Norris petulantly claims that he said it first, and it caused the Housing Bubble to burst. Rappers attempt to say it, but explode before completing the phrase. Conspiracy theorists claim that if God created the world with a single word, he will end it with That Obscenity.

    Help, thief!

Also, main characters (a.k.a. players) seem to be immune to immediate derezzing from body contact with that thing (unless she somehow created a divine shield – but if that was the case, she would be hearthing right now)

That looks to me that it may have progressed from weapon enhancement to this setting’s equivalent of Divine Shield. I suspect that it’s breakable rather than representing invulnerability until the time runs out, though.

I may be out of place, but what if the otherworldly powers in Arkerra are real (at least in the context of that world — it’s already been intimated that Arkerra is not just a gameworld), and it’s not so much a game effect as Frigg’s god actually protecting her? It would explain why what seems to be a virus cannot corrupt the particular effect the way it could Gravedust’s arrow.
