In a situation like this, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see evil-aligned characters favoring temporary alliance in the interest of self-preservation. I would say, rather, that Sundar is taking his stupid alignment seriously.

Because saving your enemies is totes the ‘stupid’ thing to do. I’m with Sundar. Let it snack on the World’s Rebellion for a while and then frag it. That’s 62 asswipes fewer Harky has for his campaign of genocide–or has everyone forgotten that’s what the WR wants?

(Horde – 62) is still a big number.

PCs can motor through that pretty easily, and it can eat faceless mooks to hit 62 just as easily as enemy heroes. If it had to eat 62 heroes, it might be tempting…

And what are the chances they’ll be able to scarf-block it if they can’t allow it even one more snack? Better to start the battle before it builds strength, then go back to killing each other afterwards

I think also worth mentioning is the psychology of the Adventurer. These are all warriors but not soldiers, people who are used to being given a lot of free reign in terms of how to complete their missions/stay alive.

While this history means adventurers are perhaps more prone to abiding by their own moral system rather than someone else’s, it also gives them a greater prerogative to talk these things out. Sparing an enemy’s life so they can talk is exactly the kind of decision an adventurer could make but a soldier couldn’t.

But why would you bother in a case like this? They’re already pledged to your destruction and the slaughter of everyone you know (see Penk’s little temper-tantrum before the airship wreckage fragged the fort the WR was assaulting from a chapter or two ago). There’s literally nothing to discuss with Penk and company except how best to ensure the troll dies and stays that way.

There is considerable irony in your comments going, in order, “The World’s Rebellion believes in genocide” and “so genocide them!” But it is exactly how mustache-guy and other Gastonian patriots see it (except the ones who only need one statement, that nonhumans need to be put in their place, by extermination if necessary).

Gravedust’s comment suggests that getting destroyed by the beast isn’t a regular death, but rather something worse (soul eating / permadeath / character deletion). There is a LOT of room to draw a moral distinction between killing someone and erasing their soul, just like there’s a huge difference between PvPing a player and getting their account deleted/permabanned.

PvP would make a lot of difference if the defeated *player* died & YOU are the one who killed them. The only ones who would play in that case would be certified psychotics.

The whole point of letting to forces opposed to you kill each other is that at the end of the fight, both of them are weaker. However, since it seems a foregone conclusion that the Beast will win, that tactic wont work. In fact, it will backfire.

Because where you once had two forces fighting each other, you will now have a single force that is now as strong as the previous two combined and which doesnt need to worry about morale or other issues that a grouo of individuals had.

Congratulations, you just fed your enemies to the Borg. Prepare to be assimilated, asshole.

Well, the kids are gone, and he never saw them in the first place. I think Sundar’s assuming it would be the 62 strongest warriors of the savage army.

Though I guess it actually wouldn’t, because of the evacuation. It would probably actually be 2 savage champions and the 60 slowest stragglers.

Her uncle was a Mystic, and she felt enough respect and affection for him not to badmouth him just to curry favour when they were picking champions. And the only reason she seemed to disagree with the Mystic ways was because she believed that the Savasi “need warriors” – and here’s Gravedust, who’s been a Mystic warrior since the first page we’ve seen him.

It might be itneresteing for Magda if they meet, is all.

To me, it looks like she might make a similar decision to when Byron told his team to stand down when they witnessed the Orcs being enslaved – it’s a huge battle that isn’t the right time or place for them to fight – and is appreciating the difficulty Byron felt at that time to reach that conclusion.

Or maybe she’s wondering if she can use her glowy hammershit to shut Sundar up from a distance.

        October 24, 2014, 4:56 pm | # | Reply

Nah, I can’t see Frigg doing that and I am not really sure it applies in this case anyways.

Byron had them stand down to avoid an incident with the World’s Rebellion (whom they were not yet at war with) and because they were heavily out numbered. Here they have caught up to the beast they set out to kill and found it fighting another enemy of theirs. Taking immediate action with the orc slaves would have started the war early, while taking immediate action here might actually help towards achieving peace.

Reminds me of that one World of Warcraft world-raid boss that would get kitted all the way to Stormwind and proceed to become invincible because it could AoE hundreds of people at once and every kill healed it / made it stronger, and of course the capital city was full of lowbies to reap.
