Topic change: Why would the principle city of the high elves, one of the richest and most well developed civilizations in this world, have a building with a thatched roof? It kind of makes to find Sundar there but for some reason the juxtaposition of it is bothering me.

I’m really confused now. Why would Sundar be aware of your proofreading skills, much less want to curse them?
All of the Sky Elf buildings have thatched roofs, from what I can see. At first guess, probably so that birds can freely take them as nesting material?
Option 1: Aesthetics. They have tiles UNDER the thatching.
Option 2: Since they’re flying over the weather anyway, they don’t NEED good roofing.
The sky elf city used to be all perfect but as soon as Sundar set foot in it a mini-slum was generated just for him.
The code monkeys forgot to ask the art designers to make new interactive close-up models in time for an expansion they didn’t write yet. Yay model reuse!
While this doesn’t quite address your curiosity over thatched roofs in a sky elf city, I think it’s worth pointing out in panel 2 you can see another building with the same style of roof. Strange or no, it’s not restricted to one shack at the least.
Locally sourced materials? They can probably grow enough straw in the city to make all the thatch they need. Clay tiles, metal sheet roofing, etc. would have to be portaled up from the surface. Mining away the island they’re floating on isn’t a great idea. ;)

Probably wouldn’t be such a clusterfuck if she hadn’t tossed the closest thing she had to a second-in-command in jail for stupid reasons.
I dunno, Bandit was being kinda nutso. With good reason, but still.
You’ve got multiple witnesses who could attest to Byron being at the forefront of the berserking zombie horde. Bandit put him down when that was her only option. She was obviously not ‘zerking herself, since she was coherent (to an extent) and did not violently attack her rescuers the way the actual berserkers did.
The fact that she was glad he was dead and she killed him has no bearing on whether her actions were right or not (and we know they were, and the witnesses know they were), and is certainly not a criminal offense. She can’t be under quarantine like Bragg is, because Tobias, Isidro, E-Merl, and Scipio were not put under quarantine. They were all equally unberserk’d.
Ergo, she was in jail because she killed a politician’s boyfriend. And that, taking into account the extenuating circumstances, is a stupid reason.
This so many times. It would be one thing if Bandit’s extreme reaction/lack of regard in killing Byron was the prime and only reason given for her incarceration, but even through Syr’NJ’s own words its very clear the initial decision to detain Bandit was an emotional one; her continued detainment even more so.
I’ve been thinking the exact same as you all this time, that things would be going a lot better if Bandit were around to take charge and help. However, maybe that will be what comes at the end of all this. There’s a lot of turbulence pulling our heroes apart from each other, but that exact thing might be what ends up gluing them back together.

No, indeed. But that is seriously screwing up with the group’s cohesion.
Bandit? Making a better job at being in charge?? She has none of the qualities Syr’Nj has. And she’s arrogant.
I didn’t say she’d be better at being in charge, I said the situation would be better if she was free to do her job rather than being in jail. Syr’Nj would have been relieved of some of the enormous pressure that is on her — you’ll notice in the previous strip she was *looking* for someone to delegate responsibilities to. She can’t delegate them to her second-in-command because her second-in-command is in jail. And Syr’Nj put her there.
Is there a place, anywhere in the world where somebody can kill their commanding officer and not have the incident investigated?
Technically, Byron had been dismissed from command long ago and had only really worked his way back to second in command under bandit recently. Also, to answer your question, Vietnam 1965-1973, squad and platoon sized units.
Quite. Bandit was field leader for that mission, and Byron was not currently a commander at all. She killed a subordinate — and, as I mentioned, there are plenty of witnesses who can vouch for the necessity of her actions.
Neither of those things are true….
Y’know, you’re right. I was misremembering, though I’m positive there was a discussion at some point where people voiced their discomfort with having Byron as the leader of the group. Must’ve been before the Adventurer’s Guild formed, ’cause I can’t find anything like that afterward.
Still though: multiple witnesses. If anyone had bothered to investigate the incident, they’d know Bandit is in the clear.
And also, if she was jailed pending an investigation don’t you think the authors would have told us that?
To elaborate on my last point, if Bandit was being imprisoned pending an investigation E-Merl and Bandit would know that. That’s the kind of thing E-Merl would bring up when Bandit got bitter about Syr’Nj putting her there — that it’s likely only temporary.
Another thought strikes me: is there anywhere in the world where someone can kill the other members of their military unit and not get investigated? Because, as I mentioned previously, literally no one else who was not berserking has been imprisoned.
I think you’re thinking of when she won the vote to field lead the Peacemakers which, yes, occurred before the Guild formed. After that the two groups seem to have sort of merged? I’m honestly not sure which, if either, of them was technically in charge of that whole fiasco, they almost seemed to lead in parallel, they were never shown discussing plans.
Regards witnesses, I don’t think there were any. There were other people in the same battle, sure, but was anybody was actually shown as having eyes on that fight? They were all climbing up onto the rooftops to avoid the swarm, and everybody looked like they were converging on Syr’nj’s position after she arrived on the scene. Plus, everybody in the comments witnessed it, and we still can’t agree about it.
You’ve got a fair point about no one else being held on charges, but nobody else was found yelling about how glad they were to have killed their teammates either. I’m taking Bandit’s mention of Syr’nj hoping to “get her a dishonorable discharge” to be referencing a court martial, which *should* be an investigation. I’m basically assuming that not enough time has passed yet for all of the wheels to start turning. I can’t tell whether it’s been a day or a week since Little Lumberton was attacked, or how much Syr’nj has actually been able to find out about it, or what she’s actually been doing in the intervening period. I mean she can’t have spent the whole time wrapping Byron’s body in toilet paper, right?
All that aside, would restoring Bandit’s rank really be wise right now? She made her views on berserkers pretty apparent, and a lot of the surviving guild members fit into that category. I’d expect her reinstatement to carry something of a morale hit.

She deserved it. Plus, she also lost it back at the village, when the berserker plague spread.

She *is* the second-in-command, unless something’s changed. Byron certainly wasn’t.
Syr’Nj may have jailed Bandit for selfish reasons, but there are about 100 good ones that would have put her in the exact same place. And Bandit was busy psycho-stabbing Byron in some back alley while the medical staff were risking their lives to dart rage demon carriers with the antidote. She didn’t do much leading at all.

The realization of what just happened to both parts of the party just hit her. I think she’s going to realize now that everything is coming into perspective that Bandit was not so far off the deep end as she had thought. And that her own role as ambassador to Gastonia has actually distanced her more than she wanted from her team.
At first, I read Sundar’s question as “How come you’re not dead?” and was like whaaaaat, why would she be? But yeah, makes sense that he would ask that — unlike us, he hasn’t seen everyone else deal with the grief in their own personal ways.
Speaking of which, I wonder if Frigg and E-Merl are heading towards mutual grief sex. And by “wonder”, I mean that I see it as a possibility, and it would probably lead to… interesting character development… but mostly, I’m kind of dreading it.
