Scumbag brains are predisposed to “filtering out” & ignoring smells (& even sounds too) over time…When politics is a part of your environment, people tend to ignore it.
His pose in the last panel would seem to indicate that. In all likelihood, he has his own fair share of intrigue, informants, and the like, and Iwatani’s secret pact with the berserkers is at least something he suspects.
One of the things I’m most looking forward to finding out in GA is whether Jarvis will ultimately turn out to be good-ish or evil-ish. I’m more or less taking for granted that he will be the cause of at least one plot twist before it’s all over.
A 5 minute introduction about the cult and rumours of them making people go berserk. A jump scare at the end of Byron charging at the camera with twin axes. 1.5 hours of wandering lost in the woods in between.
This film writes its’ self :-)
His deal with Brother Tom was that, one day, the cultists would be allowed to destroy a Gastonian town of their choosing, and Iwatani would not retaliate.
We must stop! No more going forward. No going backward. Not even lateral movements. Vertical movements are right out. We shan’t even consider going diagonally. Let us all just remain exactly where we are.
They do realize that adventurers are just people with a particular career and not a species right? Everyone should be just as susceptible to berserking as an adventurer.
The berserker virus has never spread like that before though. And every victim was a member of the adventurer’s guild. Honestly, I’d be concerned too.
It’s not just an occupation – it’s an organization. It’s easy to imagine that a guild all about “the free life” is infiltrated by the chaos-seeking cultists, and is using drugs or magic to make its members succeptible to the Madness.
Wait, will he maybe… seem to side with the council, advocating that the adventurers be exiled due to them being too dangerous to have in prison, close to them. In truth it’s a ploy to keep the adventurers out of cells where they might be executed, and on the real front line putting a stop to the cult and subverting the will of the rebellion at the same time.
Hoo boy. Iwatani has backstabs and backpats all ready to go!
that guy is SUCH a politician
Yeah, remember he specifically made a deal with the cultusts to let them destroy this town.
I suspect Jarvis smells a rat.
Yeah, but then again, he’s among the Gastonian political elite. So it’s probably not a new smell. ;-)

Ignorance is NOT bliss…

Pretty sure Jarvis’s entire existance in Guilded Age is just to serve as background to make the chamber of houses look more populated.
That would make me very disappointed. He’s like a Chekhov’s gun with a big red arrow pointing towards him.
exactly. Why does he have a name if he is just an extra in the background? No doubt in my mind that he has a purpose.
What to do about it? Make a movie of course. Make sure it’s a trilogy. Call it the Ur-Witch Project.

God I hate that fucking movie.
I’m honestly not sure which was worse: watching Blair Witch, or watching Blair Witch market hype ruin Cthulu too.
Nothing fully ruins Cthulu. It just goes to sleep for awhile to rise once more.
For an Elder God, *any* PR is good PR…
It’s probably worse than that… Iwatani may have named the target. Remember his deals with Brother Tom.
Apropos avatar.

It’s easy to forget sometimes that even politicians have loved ones.
Damn voters.
Well, briefly anyway… Then they sell them off so they can get elected.
I get the impression that Grand Marshall Jarvis is the smartest man in the room, wherever he goes. Here’s hoping I’m right.
Heh. Reminds me of what the Dragon Age games say about the Mabari hounds. “Smart enough to talk. Wise enough not to.”
“…and I’ll tell you more after you buy the DLC!”
The council now fear the adventurer, the adventurers guild is controlled by the council…
Dun dun duuuuuuuuuun
Jarvis disapproves of going on.

No moving whatsoever.
Nah, that’s just his normal face.
so does anyone else have any complaints, and nearby villages that may be prone to accidents/acts of the gods?
Nah, the new insurance plan covers it.
Just answer me one question Phil. Why? On your turf dawg.

Sorry, couldn’t resist teasing you over this.
Because… Philly?
They hoped their plan would go off without a hitch. It ended up going off without HitchBot.
GMJ looks like he’s trying the bit where you squeeze your eyes shut real hard, tap your heels together three times and whisper your wish.

I think basically everyone in the town was turned into a berserker.
