The line about “or anywhere else Gastonia claims dominion” confuses me. It implies that Gastonia claims dominion over Asallah En-Qu’Lara, which, as far as I recall, is only in an alliance with Gastonia.
Yes, and full of strong allies, crawling with people who can easily come and go from Gastonia without issue, especially with the blessings of the heads of houses.
It’s still a valid question. When push comes to shove, who are the Sky Elves more loyal to?
That said, the Archmage is at least pretending to be with the Heads of Houses, so if Syr’nj was in one of their cities, there’s less plausible deniability than if they can just say “Sorry, we just can’t manage to scry her out…”
Which just means he’s out for self-preservation. So he’d probably side with Gastonia just to not have assassins after him – or at least until he can secretly get out of the set up.
Though the fact that he was allowed to remain implies he was let in earlier – or at least they were certain that he would not face them as much as they were certain Syr’nj would.
He also said it, among the conspirators, as an explanation for why he’s not (openly) opposing the conspirators… which happens to keep him out their proverbial firing line. It’s also a line that the conspirators are interpreting as meaning Caneghem has no special loyalty to the nonhumans, but could also be seen as a veiled criticism of humans of Gastonia believing in their own superiority.
What he’s genuinely thinking is unclear. The impression I get, though, is that he doesn’t like what’s going on, but he’s not going to stick his neck out either.
Maybe now they’ll figure out Iwatani’s involvement in all this. The attempt on Syr’Ng’s life, the ambush of the cultists after going on a mission at his behest and the fact that he is deeply untrustworthy should be enough.
I only saw this page today. I would like to compliment the artist. The bright, powerful color schemes in the previous strip, with red and yellow, transitioning to blue, and now this first captivating panel of green is delightful. Also, the pattern of the interwoven vines as they materialize is quite eye-catching. And again you have the blue of the trees and the portal. It’s all really visually appealing. And, I love how you used the bed frame pole to divide the second panel, largely containing the two juxtaposed color schemes there as opposing pseudo-panels.
I assume those sutures are bio-degradable or can at least be recycled into a vegan salad. If not I’m going to be very upset.
I get the feeling that Hollister really isn’t into roughing it in the woods. I wonder if Sky Elves have invented travel trailers yet?
You tried your best to eliminate all of the sh*t that went on with the heads of houses.
So naturally you’re their enema.
As a wise philospher once said: “Shitters clogged!”

It’s a potty that all her effort went to waste, though.
To their credit, at least they tried toilet her see it from their point of view first.
Ahem: poop!
This country needs an anal revolution. Feel the bern…in your colon.

He does seem to have picked sides . . . ‘From up there, you all look the same.’
What that implies is that the side he’s on is his own…

Kur’Ik doesn’t have a tag. She’s an impostor!!
Actually, “God” wasn’t tagged yesterday, either.
Was tagged in the middle of the strip: “DEFY.”
I don’t think I was paying attention. When did that happen?
Chap 39, p 19
E-Merl in Panel 2: “I was way too drunk for that.”
E-Merl in Panel 4: “I’m no where near drunk enough.”
I was going to post something like this, but you did so far better.
So it begins the Renegade Age *cue Lorenzo Lamas joke*
I watched the opening for motivation for a joke, but I just can’t get past how glorious Branscombe’s hair is.

Coming Monday; the sight of Scipio makes E-Merl’s eyes leave the orbit of his head.
