And no one called us to the land
And no one knows the where’s or why’s.
Something stirs and something tries
Starts to climb toward the light.
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand
The best I can.
And no one called us to the land
And no one crosses there alive.
No one speaks and no one tries
No one flies around the sun….
Almost everyday you fall
Upon my waking eyes,
Inviting and inciting me
To rise.
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning.
(Cheers title-text for adding on of my favorite songs as a soundtrack. I have this perfect montage in my mind of WAV remembering his memories to that song.)
Yup. Phil penalises suggestions that someone should get a gold star… by not giving one.
I’ve not seen whether Phil penalises deliberate attempts to star-block by suggestion of gold stars though. Not that I’ve had a chance to do that since I’m an archive-crawler, but still…
That’s the thing with this song, I think it works on many levels, for example: Something stirs and something tries
Starts to climb toward the light.
That could be interpreted as memories surfacing.
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.
And that could be interpreted as finding oneself, i.e. WAV meeting and finding himself in Best.
So, see, I’m not sure it was so unintentional. But then, I’d agree the song’s lyrics are vague enough to help with a lot of different interpretations.
What’s with the Payet Best hate around here? I don’t think the character is meant to be likeable inside the context of the story but he’s a very well written character. The very fact that people feel strongly about the character (in the way the authors meant) means Payet’s a strong and entertaining character.
To me, Best is a lot more entertaining than WAV and that’s what a story is about, right?
Although I do feel like it could bring a sense of humanity to WAV, or at least he might feel more connected with those around him from their previous adventure.
When we met Best’s player he said that Best was only one of his many stage personas. Hopefully that means that his honest personality isn’t that big of a jerk, and WAV will share in that.
On a meta-level though, what will it mean for WAV to remember being two different characters?
Well, they pulled it off in Joss Whedon’s Angel. Connor was a borderline psychopathic due to a childhood growing in a dystopian demon dimension, but after he was given amnesia and a chance to live a normal family life with new memories (even if it was all a lie) he was able to function as a mentally healthy individual even after his true memories where restored.
This is because having both sets of memories gives new perspective and allowed him to learn from what each taught him without having to rely on only his nightmarish hellspace of a childhood.
For reference, if you’re ever pulling someone up like that, that’s not the grip to use. It relies too heavily on thumb strength and friction, which makes it really easy to slip. Grab wrists if you can reach, or use an arm-wrestling type grip if you can’t.
But weren’t they using wrist holds when Best fell last time? His bracer slipped, and Byron lost a glove, if I recall (you can see them in the flashback if you’re too lazy to crawl through the archives).
Aw. I never thought he looked particularly much like Best. I don’t doubt the authors’ integrity, but this *feels* to me like confirming a fan theory for easy points.
…Except they have the exact same face apart from skin color, and it was confirmed long ago, and it was foreshadowed before that. Seriously, it couldn’t have been more obvious if he was carrying around a huge neon sign saying “I AM THE REINCARNATION OF PAYET BEST”.

“Echoes”…good choice.
Thank you for explaining the reference!
Do I get stoned if I say you’re the Best?WRT your strikethrough’d comment: that sounds like it’d be up to you…
Stoned as in having rocks hurled at me until I died.
Too bad that others have already replied to your post. That was worthy of a gold star.
Echoes, one of my favorite songs.
Unless I am wrong, I don’t think replies disqualify one from receiving a gold star, simply stating that they should receive a gold star does.
Damn… *feels guilty*
Yup. Phil penalises suggestions that someone should get a gold star… by not giving one.

I missed out on Meddle for years, then it become one of my favorite albums. Need to listen again, one of these days… ;)
I hate to cut you, but I saw what you did there, sir.
Check out Live at Pompeii, the version of Echoes there is superior to the album version. Gilmour’s tone is just incredible.
“Help me understand the Best I can” Nice reference, if unintentional.

I hope the old memories don’t bring the old personality with them.
WAV is pleasantly undouchey.
Agreed. I like WAV’s logical, non-egotistical nature.

What’s with the Payet Best hate? He’s an arseh0le.
Do we need any other reason to hate him?
Yes Please!
Let Payet Best never see the light of the day again.
he is best left and forgotten.
Although I do feel like it could bring a sense of humanity to WAV, or at least he might feel more connected with those around him from their previous adventure.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Or fingers. Whatever.
Or… a synthesis?
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy
Oh and all play and no work makes Jack kind of a butt.
When we met Best’s player he said that Best was only one of his many stage personas. Hopefully that means that his honest personality isn’t that big of a jerk, and WAV will share in that.

Shouldn’t Best be tagged in this as well, due to the flashback panels?
And let his ego swell even more!?
A NEW UPDATE HAS BEEN DETECTED!
Would you like to install WAV 10?
That’s why it’s always Best to do a proper formating before installing a new OS.
If you don’t, you may need to Payet back later.
Awkward moment in 3…2…

+1
It comes in wavs.
Yes. Yes, it certainly does. :)
This is the Best, long may he Wav.
I also considered:
Its Best to rest, with a standing Wav.
Best not waver during a cliffhanger.
Reuniting with Frigg was nice and all, but only the touch of his One True Love could restore Best’s memories.
Indeed, there’s nothing like the threat of imminent death to help him get in touch with himself.
He’s in love with cliffhangers?
CUE CELINE DION.
Oh wow. Chris called it yesterday!
Oh, *this* ought to be good…
Last time this happened, Byron dropped him. I wonder how WAV (or is it Best now?) will react to this.
He’ll realize that the dropping happen this time and come to the logical conclusion that it was accidental last time.
Best page ever;)
It was the best of times, it was the Best of times.
Who’s the archer? I thought he was out cold?
In the frozen wilderness, devoid of shelter, everybody is out and cold.
Syr’Ng having grabbed Gravy’s bow it looks like. I hope that’s not some giant taboo thing.
I don’t think Gravy cares about taboos any more (and my avatar agrees!)
That wolf…I know this expression. ‘Bah, microwave food it is. Again.’.
Woah…deja vu! …and now he knows kung fu??
We set controls to the heart of the sun
One of the ways we show our age
I hate it when Windows 10 decides to update right in the middle of something you’re doing.
I’m going to have that song stuck in my head. Good choice of Alttext
Absolutely.
Remember, remember…..
For reference, if you’re ever pulling someone up like that, that’s not the grip to use. It relies too heavily on thumb strength and friction, which makes it really easy to slip. Grab wrists if you can reach, or use an arm-wrestling type grip if you can’t.

Odd. Physical contact with Frigg didn’t cause the vision. I wonder if it has to do with the face both of them “died”.
It’s not the physical contact, it’s the fact that when Best “died” he was dangling off a cliff and Byron tried to pull him up.
I wonder if he’s going to remember *everything* or if it was just a momentary flash.
Clearly not “everything”, or he’d remember being a normal person in sepia world.
I meant just his “life” as Best, and whether he now recalls all of it or he’ll just get pieces of it.
Ahhh… His repressed memories got the Best of him. He can’t simply Wav them off now.
Went back and checked the chapter 11, pg 19 comments. I can’t believe no one made a joke about him suffering a fatal wardrobe malfunction.
Yyyyeeeaaayy, finally am all caught up! What a ride. Easy does it, Best/Wav got something to say no to.
Confirmed Best’s Alt!
