I think they’re sticking with one action every six seconds. Possibly because they’re both slowed by wounds, fatigue, and… I wonder if some of it’s kayfabe. They are putting on a show for the audience including their arguments. It’s not just about who wins… it’s a fight for leadership. They have to get others to follow them.
I imagine this conversation is translated from the Trollish language, where complex interactions can be expressed with a few grunts, snorts and brow furling.
Look closer at the panel where his head is being bashed in. You will note the blood smear going down his chest. In the last panel, that smear lines up with the blood smear on his chin and makes it look like he is drooling blood.
No, but he needs to prove himself to the rest of the trolls as well as the other savage races who might up and go their separate ways when this is all over. Gravedust leads the Savasi now, but what about the other war leaders? Don Goblingo may be bribed into changing course, but Gondolessa and HAMMERHEAD will probably not be easily moved and this might be the last big decision Madame Arfa makes.
I actually feel this is a catch-22. Progressive vs conservative. If he goes through with the traditional values, it basically cuts his own “we will become more than this” point down. If he doesn’t, he shows he isn’t willing to do whatever it takes.
I think both Harky and Penk want whats best for the trolls. Harky’s been teaching him stuff. First the talky-talky the night before showing the subtle side politics. And now, the morning after, Penk is learning to make tough decisions the hard way.
And I guess that’s what Harky wants. He DOES want what’s best for the trolls and the other races, and Penk’s got to prove he’s the one with the best ideas for them; Harky wants to go out knowing Penk has all the follow-through of a good leader and a good troll. Neither leaves his foes alive.
Harky is pretty dead set on having Penk finish this lesson through. I think if anyone is hoping he doesn’t die they should start hoping for an outside intervention.
That’s a common theory. But there hasn’t been any confirmation in the comic one way or another.
Personally, I don’t think so. If he the kid does have an in game avatar that’s appeared in the comic, I’m leaning toward one of the gnomes of Bandit’s new crew.
I was assuming trolls weren’t playable characters. But… now that you have me thinking in that direction, there’s something kinda similar about the way they look, isn’t there?
Except, conspiracy theorist kid almost certainly hasn’t had the *time* to play through all this lately, so even if he *is* playing penk this would be happening while he was logged out, right?
It’s based on World of Warcraft. Players can play members of the Gastonian Alliance or the World’s Rebellion, just as WoW players can play members of the Alliance or the Horde.
That said, sepia world doesn’t seem to affect this world directly nearly as much as the other way around; Rachel died while her player wasn’t even logged in, meaning that everything Rachel did or said in the battle where she died came from Full-Color-World Rachel, not Sepia-World-Rachel’s-Player.
That Harky isn’t dead from that hit to the head is itself amazing. That he is conscious with his skull obviously crushed is crazy… and so painful to even consider.
(I was going to say ridiculous, but such things do happen in real life very occasionally.)
This one’s over – Harky has lost. Sad to see either of them go – those willing to hold themselves fully to their own standards are so rare.
Let’s strike a deal: if things go wrong with the humans, you can kill them all. I will step down as your leader and you can take fishhead over there as your new herald.
Ah, such a beautiful depiction of hypothetical intrapartial discourse between Donald “Annoying Orange” Trump, and Ronald “Ray Gun” Reagan! Even the nuances of RRR’s arguments being on side of toothlessness, and fabulously flaming faggotry of his opponent are here!
I wonder, though, how the next warchief will deal with new anti-islamist leader of the sand people…
I’ve never been this conflicted about wanting the ‘hero’ to win.
Dammit Guilded Age.
Ditto. This is making me :*-(
Trolls must have *amazing* lung capacity
They are reeeeeeally pushing the limits on that “talking is a free action” rule.
Ah, yes, the Troll-cratic Method. I like it.
I like how honest it is. not sure why fisticuffs are required, but I do love the resulting honesty
Long winded speeches are considered a gentlemanly courtesy in troll duels. They give the participants more time to regen.
They’re stacking it with immediate reactions
They’re using channeled abilities.
I imagine this conversation is translated from the Trollish language, where complex interactions can be expressed with a few grunts, snorts and brow furling.
Looks like Penk made a strong mental impression on ol’ Harky there
He really drummed his point in.
He’s doing rather well for his first crack at public debate.
He does present an a-mace-ingly good argument.
Eh, there’s no eloquence. He’s got one thing, and he’s beating us over the head with it.
I guess it really isnt over until the fat lady sings.
And I, for one, notice a distinct lack of fat ladies!
I on the other hand recall at least three that were in the vesinity
Vicinity. (b^.^)b
*pregnant silence*
Euwww that brown stuff running outa Harkys mouth a mixture of spit and blood?
Look closer at the panel where his head is being bashed in. You will note the blood smear going down his chest. In the last panel, that smear lines up with the blood smear on his chin and makes it look like he is drooling blood.
I think it’s more like it’s red blood on orange/yellow skin.
I think it’s just troll blood coagulating and drying up super-fast.
Yeah this. You can see it in his chest, the blood that was red in a previous panel has now become yellow brown.
Harky, you lost. Penk doesn’t have to prove anything to you.
The real question is, will HAMMERHEAD respect the outcome of this fight if Penk is the victor? It almost seems like it could go either way with him.
Yes he does. He has to show his follow through.
I actually feel this is a catch-22. Progressive vs conservative. If he goes through with the traditional values, it basically cuts his own “we will become more than this” point down. If he doesn’t, he shows he isn’t willing to do whatever it takes.

Aww… it’s sooooo sweet :)
Troll by Combat
Hey, I get it.
BOOOOOOOO.
Trolling to the very end.
I am digging the choreography on those first three panels, very smooth.
that guy didn’t invent the word “stubborn” but he sure gave it a NEW limit i swear…
… I’m afraid he can Harky, I am afraid he can… :-/
And I guess that’s what Harky wants. He DOES want what’s best for the trolls and the other races, and Penk’s got to prove he’s the one with the best ideas for them; Harky wants to go out knowing Penk has all the follow-through of a good leader and a good troll. Neither leaves his foes alive.
Harky slow. Harky weak. Harky fangless.
Well… here’s hoping nobody cashes in some briefcase for a chance at World’s Rebellion Leadership.
Harky is pretty dead set on having Penk finish this lesson through. I think if anyone is hoping he doesn’t die they should start hoping for an outside intervention.
Tectonicus has done so in the past.
Now there’s an interesting idea. Penk does kill him but Tectonicus regenerates him from death.
That would cut the proverbial Gordian Knot.
Trolls are chatty when beating the ever-loving crap out of each other.
Let’s see how much Star Trek Penk’s player has watched.
Now I can’t get out of my head how it must look on screen…
Must be a quick time event scene…
“Press X to present argument”
I always thought Penk wasn’t player controlled, like Harky. BUT, that would be an amazing thing to find out, and meet the player behind Penk.
Isn’t the player behind Penk that conspiracy theorist kid that’s helping out Shanna and the gang in Sepiaworld?
That’s a common theory. But there hasn’t been any confirmation in the comic one way or another.
Personally, I don’t think so. If he the kid does have an in game avatar that’s appeared in the comic, I’m leaning toward one of the gnomes of Bandit’s new crew.
One of the QAs established that Xan plays Rebellion.
He has a Gastonian Alliance alt or two kicking around too, I’m sure.

Harky: “…if you can.”
Penk: *hesitates*
Harky: *trollface*
Penk: *BASHES FURIOUSLY*
That Harky isn’t dead from that hit to the head is itself amazing. That he is conscious with his skull obviously crushed is crazy… and so painful to even consider.
(I was going to say ridiculous, but such things do happen in real life very occasionally.)
This one’s over – Harky has lost. Sad to see either of them go – those willing to hold themselves fully to their own standards are so rare.
That is a very annoyed mace (bottom left)
A hittin’ mace is a happy mace. Look at it grin!
Let’s strike a deal: if things go wrong with the humans, you can kill them all. I will step down as your leader and you can take fishhead over there as your new herald.
