It lacks the green glow of the last volley so can’t blame Taro for this.

He did, however, leave standing orders to defend at all costs.

Right I’m thinking this is Jarvis’ doing. Random whatever makes a good point, but Gobularence can see who’s on the ground and wouldn’t bomb his own war chief.

Syr’s mistake here. Not time to explain “hey little Johnny, I know you like playing in the road, but a car may come along soon, so I need you to please-” but rather “MOVE YOUR A$$ OUTA THE STREET NOW”!!!

BYW, lovely battle stew, guys; beautifully plated, especially. A pinch more Auraugu plus a dash of Bandit, and it’ll be absolutely perfect! (Then again, I’m not a tale chef, so feel free to ignore above).

Well, as we learned in Les Miz, when you yell at little people to get their butts off the barricades, that only inspires them to stay put. The only solution is to shoot them all, and then maybe evacuate a survivor or two out the sewer system.

I lost interest in Schlock Mercenary once the author made it clear he didn’t understand how governments or markets work.

One could make the argument that governments and markets don’t really understand how they work, either.

That would explain all that talk about invisible hands that fix everything, yet things often get worse when trusting for that to happen.

It’s going to be wrapping up soonish from what I’ve seen. Honestly, it’s not a bad thing, it’s gotten more than a bit long in the tooth.

…what? Schlock Mercenary “wrapping up”? That’s like expecting Google to wrap up. This is what Howard Tayler does for a living. He’s a pro. It’s his job. He has no particular reason to stop.

What have you seen that makes you think he’s on the verge of quitting?

He announced it was going to have 5 to 8 more books, each being about a year…but back in 2012. I shall search for a more recent announcement of it, but now for the delicious sauce!

And after more searching I found a 2015 interview that doubles down on it. BUT! He also included it pulling a grand sort of reset and going all time skip forward so they can start fresh with a new group and new stories.

              But wait! More source!

one of the many fucked up parts here is whoever fired that may not even be acting out of malice. Somone who expects the savages to murder everyone they can reach may think the civis have better odds with bombardment than with the enemy. The idea of this being done by someone cursing the “necessity” of it just adds a new angle of horror to it.

To a degree, I actually expect Jarvis (perhaps even Taro), think the savages are going to just murder everyone anyways. So I can certainly see why Jarvis may not have thought twice about Taro’s directions.

Taro however, strikes me as the type of guy who would have fired on his own lines had the enemy brought only flowers & peace signs and showed no inclination to fight whatsoever.
