Guest Comic Annotations – Zack Frederickson
This guest strip and a rendition of Skin Horse’s Tip Wikin are the only online evidence I can now find of Zack’s cartooning career and his comic Deliverance, Inc. The Deviant Art account on which these characters existed is no more and the Internet Archive has not picked it up. So if your curiosity was piqued by this brief interaction, well, too bad, I guess!
Maybe Zack’ll come in and tell us what he’s up to now, in which case I’ll revise.
Bringing one’s own characters into guest work like this always felt a little risky to me when I was doing guest strips for others. Crossovers are cool, but this backdoor crossover might’ve left some readers feeling like they missed the introductions. Still, Best is enjoyably full of himself here, and that’s always a plus.
I remember reading this the first time around and despite not knowing the guest characters, it was clearly a “possible alternate universes for Payet Best to end up in” and I think the artist completely nailed Best’s personality. That last panel especially!
