John’s Highlight Reel – Part Three
And here’s part three of John’s Highlight Reel, the single longest page in the entire comic! One of my favorites to say the least.

Great transition!
I have to disagree with the alt text. HR looks far to alert in the end there to be me waking up in the morning. ;-)
This was a well done scene. I think it spoke volumes about HR and his goals.
Joining those pages together into one seamless image was the really hard part.
Yeah, that whole sequence was epic. Going above and beyond, John!
Also, Happy Midsummer to everyone who celebrates such an occasion (which should be everyone in the northern hemisphere, I mean come on, it’s the best holiday ever)!
Where I live, the longest day of the year went dark and rainy.
And cold. It is now 17°C when it should be closer to 30° with the humidex.
(Weak Kermit-the-Frog style cheer)
Yaaaaaayyy….
Happy Litha..
This was particularly elegant.
Also, please don’t be discouraged by the lack of comments. I, for one, am enjoying this retrospective greatly!
I also! ,’-)
I`d just really like to thank you for your work! Your art style is what really made the mood and athmosphere for whole saga!
Thank you, browny. It’s been an honor and a pleasure and really fun too. During the past seven and a half years I’ve gotten to draw trolls and gnolls and bird people and goblins and knights and monsters, and design everything from cloths to buildings and daggers to super-cannons. It’s been great.
I was especially fond of that sequence. I love how it mimics Penk’s lava dive.
Yeah, this was easily one of my favorite sequences in the entire comic. Great job on it, John.
Such an amazing piece of art. Congratulations !
He looks like William H. Macy on that last page.
Nooo! I started reading in late August, and finished the actual comic early September! I can’t have missed out! Nooooooooooo!
Just got to this page again after re,re,reading Guilded, and this one of my top 5 illlustrations, John.
It really speaks volumes and I just realized how you paralleled “going thru” Tectonicus and HR becoming…
going thru his own transformation. Incredible! I guess that’s why I reread a lot of this & other comics!
Once again thank you for sharing, doing what you do for others to love & enjoy!
Amazing art to come back to!
