Seven Year Anniversary
Hey ho, Guildies! It’s Labor Dabor, and that means it’s the motherfuckering SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF GUILDED AGE!
Friends, it’s been a trip. We have a little over a year left on this comic as we ramp up to the ending and whatever may lie beyond. We’ve got eBooks coming down the pipe, new online storefront, new convention appearances… we’re gonna do our last year up proper.
As is tradition around these parts, today is AMA day so ask me (Phil), T, or John anything you want! Or try to write your own monthly adventurer’s lifestyle interest periodical headlines! Let’s have some fun, eh?
Thanks for reading all these years. YEARS. ALMOST DECADE.
I NEED TO SIT DOWN.
… I’M ALREADY SITTING DOWN. HOW DO I SIT MORE DOWN?
How does one reuinte their party, exactly?
You just convert them back to unsigned integers, but double-check the math if they were floating around for a while. Processors do squirrelly things when you’re not looking.
7 years of typos and counting.
Hehe. “CampaGIN.”
Don’t say I never give you guys something to do.
One parties until “reuinte” looks like the correct spelling.
re-untie…

This would be the equivalent of throwing up blood and bone, so preferably none.
Wow… time sure does fly! Happy anniversary, best wishes and may success keep finding you in all your endeavors. :)
Chuckling at Syr’Nj’s swimwear. :) Frigg probably went skinny-dipping, I guess.
Congratulations on your anniversary! :D
Of course Best wears a Speedo. I never sausage a suit before. (Apologies to Pedro on I-95.)
Note the color. That, sir, is a banana hammock.
For someone who was complaining about her frozen tits you’d think she’d choose something warmer to swim in.
Polar Plunge FTW, bitches.
I am very, very curious how y’all are gonna wrap this up in just over a year. It feels like things have just gotten started. Been enjoying the ride!
A: You sit more down by placing a chair on your chair so you can sit while you sit. Just be careful about three chairs, for some reason anytime someone mentions it there’s a foghorn blast.
B: Syr’Ng’s head makes me think of the martians from Mars Attacks. It looks so green and ready to pulsate with that flower print bathing cap.
C: Congratulations!
D: Should I stop with this list? Probably.
Happy Anniversary! I’m looking forward to how this moves forward!
I also hope you have a future comic in a similar setting. You guys are doing an awesome job with this!
Do you have any ideas of what the future holds after you’re done with Guilded Age?
“I never make plans that far ahead.”
T and I own the LLC that publishes Guilded Age together, and we’ll probably be using it for publishing our own works outside of it as well.
So, likely, we will do a couple of short-run projects independently before collaborating on a long-run project again.
And such a long-run project would be much shorter than GA is, anyway.
I have something in the planning stages that may get its start before Guilded Age ends, but it’s a contemporary romantic comedy.
I have a feeling I won’t make a massive commitment to a fantasy setting like this one for at least a few years– Guilded Age represents so many of my best ideas for fantasy settings that it’d be hard to jump into another one and feel like I wasn’t doing an unequal sequel. But anything’s possible down the line.
There IS an end?
I thought this was the story that never end, it keeps going on and on my friends, some people started reading it not knowing what it was, then the authors kept writing it forever just because, this is the story that never ends…
Sorry to say that “All good things must come to an end,” but if you see a rabbit pounding a drum & advertising batteries in this comic anywhere, you’re welcome to smash it to bits.
Braggadocio already (de)faced that problem.
Haha, I love this page. Needs more Bandit, though.
Also, I bet this has been asked before; but once it’s finished, will you all be going to work on another, new comic, maybe? Or is that it for comics for you?
I second Chasey’s question. I have fangirled over you guys for too long to just… quit cold turkey.
I NEED MY FIX, MAN.
There will always be some kind of comic/illustration for me in the future.(i hope)
I just don’t know specifically what.
I know I have *every* intent to hand you more scripts after Guilded Age.
Yeah, see above. I’m still toying with new ideas, and some old ones.
You sit more down by putting your feet up. When the ass cannot go further down everything else must go up.
These anniversaries always catch me off guard, tempus fugit and all that.
1) I usually read these when I just wake up, and for a split second I thought Syr’Nj’s bathing cap was her brains.
2) What does Frigg do with a drunken sailor er-lai in the morning?
I knew I wasn’t the only one who thought it was her brains on first glance! And the scariest part was that in my sleepy stupor, it made complete and total sense that she would have green brains. Haha.
1) Doesn’t seem like this is a question!
2) The nasty.
The hokey-pokey.
I used to be addicted to the hokey pokey, but then I turned myself around & life got better.
Wait, this fantasy RPG-based comic has an end? I guess Rich Burlew must not be involved.
Well, we knew that just from the regular updates and lack of filler.
Congratulations on the anniversary, folks! Here’s my question for the year: have you considered making your own tabletop gaming system based on the worlds you’ve brought forth?
Yes, and I’ve been trying to crack that nut for a couple years tbh.
I want to have a tabletop game that also does resource/time management, ideally a game that’s half legit RPG and half manager simulation? Either way, Guilded Age was always meant to be about the every day blue collar adventurer, so it would be based around that idea.
In case the above wasn’t clear, this is more Phil’s baby than mine, but I’m certainly up to help out with it as needed.
Congratulations!
And wow… Frigg must have an incredible resistance to low temperatures!
Wait… This is going to end?! O.0
Either Guilded Age ends or me and T’s marriage does.
Please don’t do that. You two make a lovely couple…
…of thousand pages of comic together.
I found Waldo!
Seven years, huh. I’ve been here for about three of them. I always feel a little special (and old!) when I realize that I’ve been taking part of something for more than half of its existence. With more than a year left, I’ll be able to experience that feeling (and feel even older!) with Guilded Age as well. ^_^
Wow, just one year? I was under the impression you were just 3/4 done (45 out of ~60 chapters), so I was just sitting here figuring you had at least 2 more years to go until I read that.
Happy anniversary! :)
How long do you think the website archive will stay around once the comic is done?
Are you going to do more book volumes in hard cover, or just the eBooks?/
We’ll keep the archives up rather indefinitely, I’m sure. No reason to take them down just because updates are over.
It is INCREDIBLY UNLIKELY that we will be doing more print editions of anything Guilded Age. We have an unbalanced stock and the Kickstarter barely got the physicals out the door before we ran out of money for some of the digital stuff (that people were much less concerned about anyway). The most likely thing we’ll do is a short run of Volume 1s, if we ever print again.
But that also depends on how things sell once we actually have an online store up and running again.
But eBooks will be done chapter by chapter as opposed to volume by volume anyways.
Thanks. :)
Nothing to add on this one.
Will you consider doing a “where are they now?” page at some point for some of the NPCs? I mean, assuming that the servers are left up and the “off-story” NPCs are doing… things.
Yeah, I could totally see doing that if we felt like we’d left loose ends. We’ll be tying up as many of those as we can in the main story, though.
There will certainly be an epilogue of sorts, and many NPCs we think are interesting will probably get their endings shown off in it.
OMG! The NPC’s will bee mooning us?
Where’s my Brain Bleach™? WHERE’S MY BRAIN BLEACH™?
The NPCs will be randomly photobumming us, throughout the epilogue.
We’re going to need more Anniversary Gossip.
Also possibly a fake marriage and a few tasteful shots of Frigg getting a new hook-up.
But as bad as it gets, our duty is knowing:
That we have a job to keep this party… GOOOOOIINNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Hello, longtime reader, originally transplanted from FAANS.
What characters have you found most difficult to write for? On a related note, is it hard to write in the subtly different style necessitated for the Sepia World cast, as opposed to the Arkerra world cast?
Real World / Video Game crossover stories are practically a genre, with their roots clearly going back many years and across a number of media (TRON, Pratchett’s Only You Can Save Mankind, .hack, Sword Art Online, etc). How do you see yourself fitting into that genre? Do you take much inspiration from those sources? Alternatively, perhaps you see the meat as being the dynamics between the characters, and the genre is just window dressing…
I don’t think any of the characters are hard to write per se, but I would say the Heads of Houses are the most difficult to keep interesting.
Honestly there’s not too much different in the back end concepts between writing the two worlds to me. Most of the style difference comes out visually, and otherwise it’s just switching between settings of available technology and pressing concerns. As someone who used to roleplay on a constant basis, this might just be second nature to me at this point.
I think we more or less fit into that genre the same way all the other titles you mentioned do, or at least hope so. There are parts we embellish or throw away… in a lot of ways everyone tells the same stories as everyone else, just with different details. Obvious influences being TRON, but for me, primarily it was ReBoot.
For us, this “Crossing over to Game World” genre (I would perhaps argue sub-sub-genre) is as much a window dressing as it is something we aim to deconstruct with the completed work. Take that as you will.
Good questions, thanks!
…how did I miss this…
