Redneck does not necessarily equal klansman. Owning a pick’em-up truck with a gunrack and a coonhound in the bed merely says that you had a rural upbringing or watched way too much CMT.
Don’t be silly, my good fellow. The Author is simply stating the obvious, as revealed by HOURS of scolarly research.
Unless…
You’re not one of those “Elf-Friends”, are you?
The Orc looks sad. He was working on his farm, trying to save up enough coin to apply for his G.E.D. (Gastonian Education Diploma) until the Gnoll set his barn on fire. And the Troll insulted him for being a dirty dirt digger.
Henceforth, I shall rub all Lottery Tickets, Rabbit’s Feet, and other various Luck Charms upon the monitor. Also, I request to mail you one pair of dice that you may blow upon them before I start up that back-alley game of craps.
When i read the orc description i though of warcraft and thought I must “build more farms.” and also
“Yes?”
“Me busy, leave me alone!”
“Me not that kind of orc!”
“Work, work”
“Okie Dokie”
“Something need doing?”
Well, if any children are reading books in this sort of setting, you’d figure they’d be noble-born to begin with. A higher standard of literacy is to be expected.
So do they enslave the orcs, or call them “indentured servants” or just exploit them as cheap labor or what? It’s clear what they do, I just want to know what term they use. “We give them purpose and dignity” or some such?
No worries, I’m half Mexican and half Irish. And the Irish were (are probably still) considered the Mexicans of the UK. In Germany it’s currently the Turks, I think. I understand that you simply mean the exploited immigrants of Gastonia, whos exploitation doesn’t have to be limited to only occuring on their own lands.
@Qlippoth: I guess you’re right about “Anonymous” ‘s intentions.
Been lurking here awhile and get the same fix of joy from the webcomic as from reading all the witty comments here… yet. Just wanted to let know I’d really mind if I start seeing “politico-alegorical” posts here.
Its a free ‘net and all but “In the mornings I like toast & coffee, but not toast IN my coffee”. Now, on with the show!
It’s still doing it, and I forgot to check yesterday so I can’t see part IV (except for some reason the alt-text for IV is there!). Something about the update has messed up :(
Yeah, it looks like the image of Avians, Land Sharks and Goblins got uploaded to [http://guildedage.net/comics/2010-11-18-gastonian-guide-4.jpg] and replaced the Trolls, Gnolls, and Orcs image that used to be at that URL. Dammit.

Children, do you know the story of the Three Little Gastonians and the evil gnoll who huffed and puffed and blew their house in?
Also lol @ trolls.
I was lost there for a second or two with the trolls … then burst out laughing when I got it ;-).
troll description is full of win
I never thought I would see a fantasy book, game, comic, or other source warn of a troll’s specious arguments.
Oh wait, I get it now.
Damn, I know it’s the point, but the gastonians seems like a bunch of racist asshole… My redneck detector is bursting into flames !

Besides, cities are chock full of racist folk.
No, Fren! This is one of the Trolls this entry told us about! Do not engage him in conversation! Damn, man, don’t you read your basic instructions?!
It also indicates being american.
Rural upbringing has other indicators elsewhere.

you know… i think he is!
I feel like there might be a hidden jab in that description of trolls.
I like how the fishing metaphor has given way to a fantasy monster.
The Orc looks sad. He was working on his farm, trying to save up enough coin to apply for his G.E.D. (Gastonian Education Diploma) until the Gnoll set his barn on fire. And the Troll insulted him for being a dirty dirt digger.
Gnoll= Griefer.
Troll= Troll.
Orc= Ordinary internet user.
You win TEH PRIEZ!
Actually, you do, Fren.

Aw, man, that’s like, the ultimate in lucky sevens!
That’s going to frustrate a lot of achievement junkies.
I bet he would’ve preferred to get those numbers on a slot machine.

The Gnolls sound rather wolfish. Gnoll pun intended, of course,

Work work ZugZug Dabu – Work work zugzug Dabu Dabu…
Yeah, I thought that about the orcs too.
A little known fact is that orcs also make excellent soldiers… when led by Human Officers.
Interesting vocabulary for a children’s book. There are adults TODAY that would think the language here is ‘high-fallutin.’
Midevil fantasy public schools must be fucking awesome.

I thought gnolls were half hyena. And thus not canine? Idk.
You’re expecting biological accuracy from GASTONIANS?

So the Orcs are the Mexicans of the fantasy world?
We all know we were thinking it, but before I am mobbed, I meant no offense to Latinos….well…
Seems to me like you can’t leave your Earth out of it while you’re taking your Erf… FAIL.

Ooh, this one changed. :D
Avians, Landsharks and Goblins.
I imagine I just happened to look at the site during the update. ;D
That is, this #4 was displaying the imagery for #5, meaning I checked it at the very tip of the update.
It’s still doing it, and I forgot to check yesterday so I can’t see part IV (except for some reason the alt-text for IV is there!). Something about the update has messed up :(
Hmmm, that might not be so. i can’t seem to look at page # 4 at all! :o(
Yeah… it seems it was replaced by 5. :C
I don’t know what was up with that, but it’s fixed now.
