Annotated 2-21
Phil “seasoned” this page (he would be more in tune with Frigg’s voice than I was for some time), but the thrust of Frigg’s, um, argument is mine. It’s not properly a T Campbell comic unless there’s some BDSM reference somewhere, apparently.
Glad we did this sequence, though, because apparently some readers remained confused about Frigg’s gender. I know that’s a side effect of not going for the really obvious signifiers that high fantasy often uses, but still… did they miss the nunnery part?
Yes, Byron is so good with his axes he can actually be sure of hitting someone with the dull end.
“Byron is so good with his axes he can actually be sure of hitting someone with the dull end.”
Well, I’m sure Frigg’s skull is so thick that it would make no difference which way the axe hits her.
Maybe. Anyone else, though, they’d probably be dead no matter which end. That’s an awfully reckless move from Byron unless he *intended* to kill, or unless Arkerra has notably different (mundane) physics and/or anatomy.
I’d suspect it’s one of those things that might hint this as being an early part of the ‘Players’ integration into the ‘game.’ Frigg is in PvP mode, and Byron, being a predominantly melee class, just used a taunt move. Which, for his class, might just be chucking an axe instead of verbalizing.
Calling er’one bitches while you the one got took from behind!
“She might be a main character.”
And there she is, the flame-haired, potty-mouthed idol of…well, just about everybody, really.
Not to denigrate any portion of your readership, but if you haven’t been enculturated to know what a nunnery is, your odds of teasing the fact Frigg’s female out of her introduction are actually rather slim.
Not to mention the other conclusions that might be reached by those lacking both a firm grasp on teleology and the idea of gender norms…
I suspect “the nunnery part” above refers as much to her outfit at the time as to the implications of the word itself.
Where are the groin irons when you need them?
