Annotated 33-1
Having actually been to the Grand Canyon since this page came out, I can testify that’s a pretty familiar set of formations. The rocks on the upper right are a little precariously balanced, but not out of the realm of possibility.
I don’t think it occurred to Flo or me how bad this already looked for Sundar. We did have some characters marked for death in this volume, but we weren’t going to have anyone die pointlessly, and killing Sundar off before the battle begins would’ve been very pointless, in this case. You do that sort of sacrifice when you need to establish that your monster is fearsome and powerful, but we already know this thing can terrorize a ghost and seems to go through solid rock like a hot knife through butter. Its menace has already been quite established.
From Jean-Luc:
O Arkerra, thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:
Has found out thy bed
Of MMO joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.
Kinda wish we got an offshoot comic about the mom world that WAV comes from. The techno-matrix-tron thing looked neat.
Given the perspective, those precariously balanced rocks are the size of large hills – and are indeed out of the realms of possibility in real-world terms.
They remind me most of the formations in one part of Riven, the sequel to Myst

– the in-game reason for this being the existence of an acid sea of some kind that suddenly got drained away.
Muttley! How are things? (And yeah, you’re probably right.)
I remember first time round this page was TERRIFYING
it still kinda is XD
