Annotated 4-20
Woo-hoo, 4-20! [inhaling noises]
Oh, who am I kidding, that’s Phil’s thing.
Panel 1 is the kind of busy tableau that I love to encourage, where there are at least several different things going on, all of them jostling for the reader’s attention. Most seemed to prefer the little girl’s response to Best’s method of rescuing her. (We should’ve made her look a bit less like Bandit, though.)
Best is, um, actually not wrong about hostage testimony, but it’s more important that he’s just assuming Byron’s being incompetent without giving Byron a chance to say anything. Best can’t think any of his “backups” has uncovered anything he hasn’t figured out for himself. He won’t learn that Taro is a bigger villain than von Carnaj was until the interlude in Weo’s cabin.
Byron tries to be professional with his words, but his face shows that he is 1000% done with this guy.
Wow. It took me a really long time to get the 4-20 & THC reference.
If it makes you feel any better, I still don’t get it. What’s 4-20?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_(cannabis_culture)
The number 420 is associated with marijuana, at least in the USA. There are a number of explanations for why, none of which are actually true.
The reason doesn’t really matter. The time (either 04:20 or 16:20) and especially the date (April 20) are considered especially appropriate times to smoke weed.
Of course, anybody getting high because of what time it is PROBABLY doesn’t need the excuse. But you don’t really need an excuse to have dinner with your family, but Thanksgiving is still a thing.
Me too to be honest. Best always seemed to be very…vestigial to the overall story. Not in terms of plot, but just as a character contributing in the group dynamics.
The background texture really works together with the last panel here.
A heads up: The “Next” arrow has been broken for at least a few pages.
I’ve also noticed that the annotated comics seem to be just one big chapter, navigation-wise. “Previous chapter” doesn’t work and “Next chapter” takes you to the start of the original chapter 1.
“Next” arrows seem to be working for me. But I’ll tinker with the chapter headings a little bit in the wee hours of this weekend, when I think reader activity will be relatively low.
Yeah, they’re working for me too, now. I realized it was because Firefox still insists on giving me cached versions of pages from this site until I manually reload them.
My dad loved sailing. Consequently, I have one or two “failboat” memories of my own — but only one or two, as sailors don’t generally survive multiple errors.
